Viševnik

Today it was worth taking leave, it was even necessary, and head somewhere higher. Visit to Viševnik rewarded us with rich views of surroundings, especially towards the eye of Triglav, from which gaze couldn't be torn away.
For me today Viševnik especially fulfilled expectations, as I climbed it first time via nice pathless route, namely V ridge, over Kačji rob. Otherwise warm, suitable for short sleeves, at cable car I counted 20 cars. Day for gods!

Ločanka, you've made us crave it. We too today via Kačji rob and eastern ridge climbed to Viševnik. To Srenjski preval we descended via western ridge. Weather gorgeous, summery warm, in couple days winter here.

Today first time on Viševnik, it was wonderful. Some snow, but no big deal. Towards summit nice to have crampons, on path from summit without crampons I'd whimper a bit. Weather excellent, tons of hikers.

Viševnik has only snow patches. Caution needed on ascent from Zlatih voda to plateau under Plesišče, where still hard snow and partly icy paths. More at: http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/123034/

On Sunday I went with two colleagues to Viševnik. One was from Serbia. For them it was the first winter ascent to a two-thousander. In the end both were enthusiastic about the experience. From Rudno polje we went up to Viševnik then down to Srenjski preval. Then under Veliki Selišnik, Debel vrh and Vrh Razorja to Blejska koča. No time for Debelo peč. Returned via path to ski slope at Rudno polje. Since Nebojša is an excellent photographer with top gear, I'm posting some pics with his comment.

...tomorrow I'd go from Rudno polje to Viševnik, wondering what the path is like or rather I have these crampons http://www.iglusport.si/trgovina/akcija/snowline-spikes/ will they be ok?

andrus, hope you didn't wait for confirmation that small crampons suffice. They come in handy....

Some shots from yesterday... interesting play of light and ice crystals....on the slope met two brave cyclists, and quite a few hikers...

@opazovalec,
Viševnik with approaches belongs to the 1st protection zone of Triglav National Park and cycling is prohibited there. Signs warn all visitors about this, but some obviously ignore them.
Who will preserve our natural heritage if not us?

True Irina!
And now these two cyclists have blown the snow so much that it won't recover for a couple of winters. Global warming means nothing against them.eek

We'll have to go to the mountains in slippers so no damage is done.

@tine.si,
you can mock and wisecrack but you can also ask why these cheeky Slovenian boys and girls respect prohibitions in Austrian or Italian mountains? Whether it's ban on motor vehicles or bikes. For the simple reason they fear the financial police. The finance guards come, issue a fine that makes their eyes darken, if the offender mouths off unnecessarily, gets an additional fine for insulting an official. Both must be paid immediately. They accept cards too. Food for thought.

Irina and why do these cheeky boys and girls happily go mountain biking in Italian and Austrian mountains and enable people living there to live off active and green tourism? And even in national parks protected also by UNESCO. They have prohibitions there too and yes, they are respected. Why? Because there, unlike us, they allow activities along with prohibitions. And riding is allowed practically everywhere, where prohibitions are, it's nicely marked on site. And such areas are very few. With us, along the line of least resistance for cycling we closed almost the entire mountain world, completely the high mountains and areas above tree line.
In Italy, Austria and also countries we like to look down on, say Croatia, Slovakia and Czech such areas are promoted precisely with mountain biking and they organize various MTB marathons and other events. With us after two years of successful Soča outdoor festival MTB marathon (they had all permits, also TNP and PZS sheriffs) they banned it because of cycling ban in TNP. In Italy they do them without problem in Dolomites, in Croatia in Plitvice Lakes National Park...
On the other side there are so many serious environmental protection issues that no one dares tackle because they know it won't pass due to certain lobbies. And two of the loudest lobbies are hunting and mountaineering (PZS, while local PDs look much friendlier on this topic).

@GregorC,
for the simple reason that Slovenes are increasingly arguing, nagging and dividing instead of negotiating and agreeing.
Everyone looks only at their own benefits and is not even willing to listen to the interlocutor's proposals.
But that doesn't mean we can violate regulations, prohibitions .... That's the worst possible choice.

@Irina: what cards! cash only! In Italy straight to pocket, no paper or receipt. Saw with my own eyes! No, not down south. In the north, at rest area on highway Venice-Trieste, where a Romanian parked in disabled spot. 50 EUR, cop stuffed in pocket and left! velik nasmeh

@GregorC: not exactly that it's allowed almost everywhere except where not. There are nicely marked MTB trails, which are admittedly sometimes spread so densely almost like hiking paths, there are also paths shared by hikers and cyclists. Still regulated. Arranged of course much better than with us.

Irina, just out of curiosity, why do mountain bikers bother you so much?
No hard feelings I respect your opinion, but reasons cited against this activity here are pretty shaky. Or rather environmentalists abroad laugh at them.

VanSims difference in the initial concept.
Here we have it forbidden everywhere, except where explicitly allowed.
Abroad: Allowed everywhere, except where explicitly forbidden.
The difference is quite significant. Currently here there are about 50 km of legal mountain bike trailseek
