Vrh Korena 1999m

viharnik23. 11. 2008 14:06:06
Today, despite the cold and wind, I headed to the nearby Krvavec. The road to Jezerca is now wide enough for three trucks. Higher up, by intuition I stopped at 1300m, because the road was thickening with ice. I bypassed it on a shortcut, right to Jezerca, then to Koren, Vrh Korena, over Ježa to Zvoh. Here I stopped and snacked. The NW wind was getting stronger, so I didn't meet anyone on the Ježa ridge. The base had thickened to 2cm, solid ice below! Over Ježa it went rhythmically a bit slower, but without major issues. At the top, near Kompotela, I went left on iced pathless terrain. Here and there I had to walk through scree, which at -10°C didn't give much. Down on the road, real sheet metal chaos of Sunday excursionists. With frozen ice you can still get somewhere. Worse when under sun rays it starts glistening... A couple of hardcore skiers, cross-country skiers, snowboarders already tasted the first, even if not natural snow. Greetings!

Kriška planina – Planina Koren – Vrh Korena

This morning still sun, then increasingly cloudy. Given that it wasn't too hot, the snow was just right: not too hard and not too soft. From Vrh to Planina Koren excellent glissading mežikanje Cheers, Medo

Today from the direction of Korošica valley to pl. Koren and further to Vrh Korena. Snow starts a bit below pl. Koren, then more and more. Mostly sinking 10-20 cm, towards the top even 1/2 meter or more. At the top nice view all around. Further towards Kalški greben no tracks yet, whoever tackles the path should take snowshoes.

Hey!

Has anyone been to Vrh Korena recently?
What's the path from Kokra like up?

Possible to get there without crampons?

Thanks, LP

Today my buddy and I went towards Vrh Korena from Kokra. The path was a disaster, to the pasture still kinda ok but later sinking to knees or more. We got a bit lost, only higher up we spotted the path... Summit so close yet so far nasmeh Then we thought to reach the spot seeing Grintovec and other K. Savinja Alps but exhaustion too much.
Only today I see how hard to turn back though peak visible, best view under sun up there but had to go back jezik

Well still above cloud line which was fantastic... hard to return to that fog in valley mežikanje

Yeah, today was a nice day though morning didn't look good when heading to Vrh Korena then to Krvavec it cleared nicely so weather not exactly as forecast. Hardly found Vrh Korena cause lots of snow and just then heavy snowfall. Gotta thank viharnik for tip on this tour. First thought from Vrh Korena to Zvoh but too dangerous and path not visible at all so went unmarked from pl. Koren to Krvavec.

Tour on the last day before NYE was an excellent choice, especially for mountain enthusiasts who care about mountains. Nothing better than being part of genuine mountain nature that acts on every sense, awakening, teaching, calming you. For really great skiing here, some fresh summit snow is missing, which will fall soon. But caution on crossings with new snow under Zvoh, which has regular avalanche lines there. More on conditions on TK gora. Nice greetings and happy 2011!.

On Saturday (15.01.11) from Markova ravn headed to Vrh Korena. Road to Markova ravn dry but watch lots of rocks on road! Moved them for one truck eek to pass. Path mostly dry too until behind wooden hut joins path from Kriška planina. Temps high so snow sinking intensely but not too deep, doable. Few hikers (only 5 met jezik ), wouldn't go back to valley at all, so nice on top! Since first time Vrh Korena winter can say only....can't compare to dry season. Fantastic! velik nasmeh

Today we went "poking around" around Krvavec…Not too early drove to planina Jezerca (further by car currently not possible - barrier) and headed to Kriška planina and on to planina Koren. Short break follows, then to planina Košutna and from there Vrh Korena. In rough plan also Košutna and Kompotela but since views zero skipped them this time. Descended via Jež ridge and Veliki Zvoh back to start….Weather of course varied…from sun to clouds, fog, light wind even few rain drops counted nasmeh.
Since last visit two years ago nice news: paths from planina Koren on in all directions excellently marked with blazes and signs (all praise PD Komenda, also last wire on descent over Jež renewed). Daughters enjoyed and wondered how different Krvavec looks summer vs winter mežikanje
Shame no views otherwise very nice varied undemanding circular tour…many such around Krvavec best you can extend or shorten as you like…nasmeh

Gita@ wonderful trip and nice pics, you reminded me that I still owe a visit to Vrh Korena; last year I did an unforgettable circular route: Kriška planina, planina Koren, planina Košutna, Košutna peak (with edelweiss), then Kompotela (all in bloom with wild thyme and gentians), then due to thicker fog a quick circular back to planina Koren; when descending to planina Koren it is really like a mountain fairytale, not to mention the view towards Kompotela with beautiful Grintovec in the backgroundnasmeh and as pohodnik11 says, really nice areas-paths around Krvavec worth the step; lpnasmeh

Saturday -6.8.; the call of the mountains was too strong despite bad weather forecasts, so I couldn't resist putting on my »gojzarjev« and off to the Kamnik mountains - to Vrh Korena; start at Kriška planina, to planina Koren still dry, then raindrops already forced me to pull out safe protection against wetness from the backpack; at the planina four hikers headed to kline towards planina Košutna, we two took this time after some time the common, very well-marked path to Kompotela and Vrh Korena; despite dripping and swirling and whistling around the ears, quite a few mountain addicts went up and down, even a group of female hikers from Reka, not exactly of youthful years, who went over Jež and continued to Cojzova koča (all respect to themnasmeh!); low cloud cover and mists prevented the otherwise promising nice views of the magnificent walls of KSA rising opposite, but occasional breaks conjured all the magic of the vistas from this truly panoramic peak; due to raindrops the snack stayed in the backpack until the hut at planina Koren, where we together a bit »povedrili« before the heaviest rain; what can I say - all of you who haven't enjoyed the beauties of the path as well as the views from this piece of our mountain paradise yet, too bad for youmežikanje; best regards and of course pictures, as much as the weather mishaps allowed;

We missed each other by a little, we met the brave Rečanke just at the entrance to the slippery path over Ježzmeden. We two went first to pl. Košutna - vrh Košutne - Kompotela, where the first drops hit us - Vrh Korena, next rain delivery - over Jež towards Zvoh, slight drizzle (quite unpleasant over slimy rocks, good there are protections) to Krvavec to ring at the chapel of Mary of the Snows, who celebrated the day before and to Florian for strudel. Nicely used not exactly sunny daynasmeh

I'm curious which watch you use and how satisfied you are with it? I plan to buy one but don't know which, it should also show altitude. Please advise.

Well, I'll go on this circular tour too, it must be nice I thought, since three hribi.net forum gals roamed up there recently. There was really something to see, day perfect for such a nice panoramic path. I start at pl. Jezerca and over Zvoh across Jež to Vrh Korena. Up there I meet the first hikers, three little chatty alpinists who brought their mom and grandpa to the mountains. They continued towards pl. Koren, I to Kompotelo. At Kompotelo I disturb the peace of two female hikers and one of them kindly points out the peaks to me. Thanks again. I return via pl. Koren to nicely close the loop. When I was already down in the woods on the narrow path, I hear someone running behind me, I step closer to the edge of the path and look back, I expected a human runner but it was a chamois. Something scared it and it galloped down the path. When it spotted me just two meters ahead it veered so sharply off the path into the scrub that pebbles flew everywhere. Good it turned out well, otherwise the chamois would have knocked me down on the mountain pathnasmeh no one would have believed me if I arrived all battered in the valley and told what happened. It was another nice day up there a bit highernasmeh

Hi Gita, had a nice day yesterday on the peaks around Krvavec, you gave me a great idea. Good luck

Tisa you'll have wonderful views at Kompotelo, wait for a nice day and head up there. The chamois was really something, some ask where to go to see them, mine almost ran me over on the mountain path nasmeh Best regards
