Saturday 10.7.2021 Zelenjak-Palec-Vrtača via Mala Glava Great hike to peaks above Suhim ruševjem. We managed Zelenjak and Palec in the sun and had nice views from them, Vrtača via Mala Glava in cloudy and foggy weather we barely found. Well, it wasn't really that bad, but far from what the weather forecasts promised. On Zelenjak we were alone briefly, on Palec there were more people, from there to Vrtača top alone again. Similar to two weeks ago, seems the path over Mala Glava is really dear to me, sixth time, but we found a spot and rested our feet. Descent to Zelenica passed easily, there crowd as expected, but we had a place to sit and enjoy žganci with cracklings and sour milk. It went down very well. Before car detour to ski slope and greet the ponies, soon home. Great day, we were the only two http://tubojan.blogspot.com/2021/07/zelenjak-palec-in-vrtaca-cez-malo-glavo.html

Today, still in the morning coolness alone up and in a column down the marked path. Before the afternoon heat… Regards

Sunday, 11.9.2022, Palec-Zelenjak-Vrtača via Mala Glava Start at Tinčkova koča where the gravel road leads, which is paid (10€ with card) - the barrier is placed soon after Završniško jezero. From here I head towards Dom pri izviru Završnice, which I just bypass and continue towards Zelenica. I walk among cows and there were some horses too. Just before Zelenica I turn left uphill across the meadow and join the main marked path leading to Stol. Soon after I reach a junction that climbs right into the cirque Suho ruševje. From here the trail is no longer marked, but still well trodden. The first part runs through scree, higher up on scree slopes to the saddle between Palec and Zelenjak. While ascending through scree I pass the left branch that goes to Vrtača via Mala Glava - I'll climb it later. When I reach the saddle the misty "sea" over Austrian lowlands is nicely visible. Then I turn right towards Palec. The path to it goes kind of around the bend I could say - we start on the west side, then cross the south slope and reach the summit from the east side. Views are wonderful and it's peaceful too, today I haven't met anyone yet. I descend to the saddle and continue to Zelenjak. Here I meet the first hikers today. From the top the NE ridge of Vrtača is nicely visible, which looks very demanding, suitable for alpinists. I head down to the previously mentioned branch for Vrtača. This path is less trodden than those to Palec and Zelenjak, but still no major orientation problems if you have at least some mountain experience. I really liked this path and recommend it to those who don't like crowds. The summit of Vrtača is of course the most visited of my today's summits. It was really nice to sunbathe a bit and refuel. The descent then went along the classic marked path. I was thinking of visiting Srednji vrh along the way, but then I changed my mind when I reached Šija saddle. The main reason was that the path looked too muddy. Well, I still had to walk on a muddy path when descending through Zagon to the goal at Tinčkova koča .

Well, that nice Sunday was worth using, so we headed to Vrtača via Mala Glava. Weather nice, path to scree dry, further snow and in places icy in the morning. Gear stayed in the backpack, wasn't needed. But first time on Vrtača in summer, that there's snow, ... for descent along the classic which wasn't trodden and given the temperatures that are and will be, it might be dry quickly, in a couple of days. Regards, Metod

Hello This year I'd like to tackle the combination of Palec, Zelenjak and Vrtača via Mala Glava. I'm interested if the path to Vrtača is marked by cairns and how easy to follow the path is? Thanks for help.

It can be found. Read the description well, then go. It's quite well-trodden, and some cairns can be found too.

When you descend from Zelenjak back to the saddle, you continue across the scree under Vrtača and thus don't lose altitude. The path turns right under the wall and brings you to an easier jump, where there's a passage towards Mala Glava.
