21 August, and I already had plenty of everything. In the first half of the month, when we with the gang walked paths of Kugy, Tuma, Mira Marko, both Kopiščarjevs, Mihelič and some others, it washed me so much there was no talking, a week later we walked in snow, those days it burns and burns. But I didn't give in, early hour is early hour. And I climbed Vrtača via the mentioned path. Very nice stuff, lower part of the ridge has some scrambling on the right on wonderful rock, then crossings here and there on grasses, back to the ridge. And you're casually at the top. To the entry into Rušje fresh, pleasant, in shade. Ridge in sunshine, warm not hot. And light breeze, couldn't be better. Descent via classic, only quite lower down among dwarf pines it started feeling it would warm up nicely. Including loooong break on ridge and coffee in hut I was on way from 6.15 to 11.15. So from heat I felt not even "a"

I walked the described path some time ago and used (photocopied ) description from Sidart's guidebook which describes exactly this path. It looked something like this: at entry read a sentence or two, then walking/climbing to next "problem", and reading again and so to the top Anyway I always try to make a loop tour - if possible !

Today we climbed the ridge above Suho ruševje over Mala Glava to Vrtača. The path gets lost in places in the climbing section and requires some sense of orientation. Needs climbing with hand help, but not too demanding. It was really great, not too hot and rock was dry. Back via normal route - nice panoramic path.

Yesterday we two also climbed Vrtača via the same path as Legenda and others. We parked in Ljubelj and headed to the hut at Zelenica. From there we went left towards Vrtača over Suho ruševje (at junction mark on tree - letter P). To the start of easier climbing you walk constantly on unmarked path, then I thought it would be more orientationally demanding, but if you read the above descriptions and Sidart's guidebook, you quickly find main passages (especially gully), also cairns placed for help, we added one too. Summit is very interesting and view to the steep crumbly north wall. Down we descended via normal on grassy slope. Here we met interesting Zdravko, older but still very vital man with his own impulses and life motivations that lead him on foot on various Slovenian mountain and non-mountain paths. When we returned to hut at Zelenica, we changed original plans and extended tour with another ascent, namely to Begunjščica. First almost flat on scree, then steeply up through dwarf pines, here opens very nice rocky world. Path first crosses steep slopes, then after short descent crosses Smokuški plaz, where one breathes from openness of place. After that we ascended again with help of some wires to junction. Turned left and up southern grassy slope of mountain to summit. After short break and view of Gorenjska, Bled and highest Karavanke peaks, descended to Preval pasture. First part of path is real pasture full of colorful sheep, grass like soft carpet. Then trail becomes very steep. Just in this part we met mountaineers M&M carrying their mountain bikes on shoulders, as otherwise in this part no go. We exchanged couple words and each continued path to own goal. At Preval we drank healthy white liquid, sour milk, and then headed to Ljubelj. Path first through forest, then scree, through Born tunnel where due to puddles we preferred to turn on light. Again scree followed, partly secured path, interesting bunker at very panoramic spot, then again forest path and circle closed.

And then you were all so smart when I went by bike to Kam.sedlo. Important that M&M are there, then everything's fine, I'm speechless!! Now I don't post biking ones, but it'd be interesting

I think M&M already know what they're doing in the mountains. Mountain biking in harder ascents is a quite demanding sport and fitness is necessary for some feat. Also long standing descents exhaust legs and especially arms need lots of power then. So top MTBers need constant topping up of such or other ascents maybe with bike on shoulders or through overgrown pathless pushing bike uphill. That's the whole point.

...Ridge lower quite broken and crumbly, higher grassy, sharp and rocky. Bit of everything, climbing and ascending steep, today still wet grasses. Back to Zelenica via usual path, chau

A visit to almost any mountain is nicer if you go up differently than down. Vrtača offers that and as predecessors say, ascent via Mala Glava not too hard, neither orientationally nor technically. Requires just the right dose of observing and easy scrambling, and caution of course, as everywhere, since gullies quite loose. Down as wished, we went the marked one. Nowhere this year have I seen such beautiful big edelweiss. Surprisingly not hot at all, strong wind blowing, drying sweat right away. Pure joy, and no one anywhere. Only on descent met family on marked path. Path in lower cirque part quite overgrown, worth ascending earlier under walls and go on scree where path nicely made. Also hut empty, morning and return. Below hotel for sale and closed, inn too, chairlift not running... Well, not that I want crowds, but our beauties we really don't know how to use so all satisfied.

Today on Vrtača quite a crowd. Nice that weathermen don't always guess the storms forecast for this end of our country.

Yesterday chose Vrtača via Mala Glava. To Zelenica had company of large number of school kids dragging tired on road, without proper guidance to motivate for walking and enjoying mountains. At hut Zelenica saw that besides snack main motivation mobile phone. Through lower part of Suhega ruševja, gully and ridge over Mala Glava pure pleasure in nice autumn weather with excellent views. On return Dom Zelenica already closed.

Yesterday from Ljubelj to Zelenica and via the marked path to Vrtača. Weather and views for gods. Yet no hikers, but lots of aggressive jackdaws that stole our snack. On the way back, a quick trip to Srednji vrh, past the hut at Završnica spring and Zelenica to the start. Very nice tour, ascent 1400 m, walking 6.30 hours.

I know. Sorry garmont, hope I didn't devalue your route. I've also been to Vrtača several times via pathless terrain along the ridge. Regards
