At 1700 meters, I quickly did a pit to the ground and nothing released, below is southern snow, above 30cm powder. What's with this new snow, because no slabs released, maybe above 2000m conditions are different. And on what basis does meteo issue the warning, do they go to the terrain and do a profile. Still I avoided that steep part under Ciprnik and turned back, because the snow was like it fell 2-3 hours ago, and also because of wet rocks, too much snow for bootpacking. Viharnik you know how to write it well you said the new snow will bond.

LG, it will bond only after some proper cold nights. That snow above 2000m won't for a long time and also the southern in depth is not like at yours on Ciprnik at 1700m. With new snowfall the danger for avalanche formation will potentiate even more, with some additional load in high mountains especially!. Follow ARSO and also observe snow conditions on terrain yourselves and report in posts. Congrats to you for ascent to Ciprnik, where the ridge from Vitranc pulls quite a bit in such snow conditions.

It rarely happens that there is level 5 avalanche danger in the Western Julian Alps. Today it is!

...life in the hills, currently everything in ice and glaze, at night the power went out X times, in winter min. 80cm of snow falls, one walks on top, without crampons no go...

In Ljubljana everything is encased in ice. This morning I barely walked to Hofer. Many roads are closed due to trees breaking. Now rain with snow at 0.0°C . It's already snowing hard!. A few more home snapshots...

After night walk around Pržanja a spruce collapsed at final bus stop 7, road to Dolnice passable one way due to fallen trees. Approaching home another spruce snapped loudly in thicket. Was good 500m from spruce break, noise like only 50m away!. Forest won't shake off glaze soon, watch out!.

I know it's not even safe to go to the store in this weather. But I'm wondering if there's any hillock that will be safe in a day or two (no falling trees danger, no ice on path or snow with crust on top tearing dogs' knee ligaments). We haven't gone even for a walk for a couple of days and won't until they remove that dangerous snow with 'crust', so I'm prepared to drive farther to stretch our legs a bit. Thanks for answers
