The habitats of Obirska sivica are higher, for example at Zelenica, Velika Planina. In Gorenjska I don't see Potočna sivica. It grows along paths in the shade. otiv, I think you photographed Obirska sivica.

Thanks, Branko. I found mine at 600m asl, so height isn't the best measure. Lp nasmeh

darinka4, this Gradiška tura offers really many beauties, from climbing path to flowers in all seasons, this time you served us kranjske lilije, which aren't yet elsewhere in mountains due to cold weather, here on Primorska they are already in full beauty, and blue perunike from travnolistne to ilirske.... and also jesenček is already fully blooming. Nice!

Brane, your exploration of Jelovica also offered some flowers, is the zvončica klopčasta?

I'm glad you were on Mrzlica. But I don't understand something, why do you say the first picture is St James speedwell, but the third you call sivica? For me all three are Obir speedwell.zmedennasmehSt James speedwell looks a bit different. lp

Zvonček27. 05. 2019 10:25:23
St James speedwell of course, not šentjakobski as I wrote. I admit I can't distinguish them myself, though this St James on my picture seems a bit different from sivica. Namely, when photographing it, a passerby said it's interesting someone is interested in St James speedwell. First time I heard of it. And I believed the passerby on his wordzmedenrolling eyes:zavijanje z očmi On Obir speedwell I stumbled along the forest path. Zlatica, I don't doubt your plant recognition at all, so as a lesson to me and other "experts" to stay quiet next time. But I like when less prominent flowers are posted sometimes too.

Zvonček, you're too hard on yourself, it's good that you speak up and we exchange opinions. That's what this page is for, to learn more together, although we're mostly laypeople and hardly any are botanists. I know only that I know no more than I know. velik nasmeh Regarding the opinion about notable plants I'm fully on your side, since those along field paths interest me as much as those high in the mountains. The latter are becoming less accessible to me. velik nasmehnasmehlp

Regarding Zvonček's orchid, here's this. In my notes on orchids I have this:

stately orchid -Orchis mascula subsp. speciosa. Another name is starry orchid-Orchis signifera. So both are correct.

Last time I was only paying attention to the grint, so now I also looked at the early purple orchid. As I already wrote once, Branko Dolinar accurately describes the differences between the two early purple orchids in the book Orchids in Slovenia. And in doing so he also mentions like other botanists that we practically do not have the standard early purple orchid here, that the thriving of this western European subspecies Orchis mascula subsp. mascula in Slovenia is very questionable and that the specimens are mainly found in the form of the subspecies Orchis mascula subsp. speciosa - starry early purple orchid. This one has the following recognizable features: the lower broad lanceolate leaves in the rosette are densely sprinkled with tiny red and black spots at the junction with the stem. At the flower the outer lateral leaves (upper) which protrude outwards end with a curled edge. The middle outer leaf together with the inner ones forms a helmet. The three-lobed labellum is white at the base and sprinkled with red spots. The middle labellum is slightly bilobed and longer than both lateral lobes which are sharply toothed along the edge.
The leaf rosette is not in the picture, and the question is also Zvonček if you photographed it, however based on everything said I would, of course, decide for the starry early purple orchid, that is the subspecies of the standard early purple orchid.

Now also for this rainy day some flowers from Kamniška Bistrica from a few days ago.

Zlatica, thanks for the exhaustive explanation regarding the starry early purple orchid. Thanks also to Deniss and Velkavrh.
The picture of the planinšček flower is wonderful. Zlatica, if you hadn't written woodland planinšček, I would never have guessed that it's its flower, even though I know the flower well.
Nice greetings to everyone in anticipation of nice weather for the weekend.
