Dear Malenka, I know very well all that you are explaining to me. It seems to me that the problem is that you look through the eyes of a woman who has gained huge knowledge over the years and for you everything is more or less "a piece of cake", but here many are taking first steps. For example, if someone has an unknown plant, they can determine only color, family, genus, species... but specific properties are Greek to them. They also can't identify it from photos. I understand Kati so well that it's not primarily laziness and illusory expectations from the search engine. On the other hand many plants are not yet included and search can't always help, thanks to you the list will improve greatly, we are very grateful for that. We are here to exchange plant photos we love so much, but also to help each other with our modest lay knowledge, or better ignorance, and make mistakes too. In enthusiasm we are often too confident, don't settle for family or genus and make wild guesses. Of course it's real luxury that you joined and doubts about identification correctness are gone.

Thanks, Apolonija. I replied based on your observation that you use the search if you already know the plant. If you know the plant, no need to search here. As I wrote, there are many much more suitable websites for plant search. I have many bookmarked in browser. Usually based on certain feature (or guess which plant I studied), I searched Google images. Thus I got to useful sites via images. If beginner is interested in plants, can quickly learn which family specimen belongs to, and build further (after all we got basics in school biology). If willing to learn, will get a book - picture book. My first was What blooms here. But I often spent 2-3 hours searching for answer. 15 years ago web had less than tenth botany photos available now. So, everything depends on individual's interest. Can start by posting pic on forum for someone to tell what it is. Nothing wrong with that. Can go further: browse other users' pics on forum or Flowers section. Up to hundreds better botanical sites. Best regards

My words, that the plant should be known for the search engine—at least the family or species besides the color—were intended for Kati, who knew only the color. In general I agree with you. I believe that many people who occasionally drop in here or stay here longer, know and use other sites and browsers too. It depends, of course, on the person's motivation and knowledge not only of botany, but also computer use, learning ability, which declines with the years, time etc. Here there are also retirees, basic biology knowledge is already very distant, memory fails, many don't have much time, especially grandmas. And really there's nothing wrong if we meet here and kindly help each other, people with different levels of plant knowledge, interest and wishes.
