Which flower is this?

Interesting, I earned money for
basic school supplies by picking
hops, more baskets, more tokens, more
little dinars at likof! Probably many
young people today have no idea, from morning to evening milking the cows with a pole, even up to three weeks
it lasted!! nasmeheek

Since we won't see and photograph new flowers from our beautiful mountains for at least four more months, I'm reviewing tours from last year and the year before last. On a tour I take on average around a hundred pics with flowers, of course many don't succeed. Only a small part then I publish. Sadly last summer season disappeared due to computer failure. In future I'll be more careful with storing recorded material - reserve disk. I very much like going to Vodnikov dom and around there - descend to Veliko and Malo polje, go to Bohinjska vrata. Last year I succeeded in a feat - reaching top of Vernerja. Year before only to subpeak. Only there I found in this area extensive growths of Triglav neboglasnica and on Veliko polje also first time widerrovo murko, on path under Tošcem also red murko. Those pics sadly I don't have, but they were published last year. On return I like to detour to both Draški vrhovi and Viševnik. I publish only pics of flowers whose names I know. Undefined I don't publish. But I know there are fewer such each year.

Edelweiss

You are our dearest mountain flower,
your beauty reaches to the heart,
which softens even more by you,
at the thought of living in a rocky crevice.

The tenderness of your white bloom,
heals hearts clad in sorrow,
just need to forget the troubles,
surrender to gazes at the peaks.

Often they reach for your flower,
to have it in the home world,
thereby forgetting all culture,
with your flower they just want to crown their toil.

otiv, thank you very much for the beautiful poems about our mountain flowers. I save them especially and there are so many that they can hardly be counted. Thanks!

Already last year I tackled the topic of our native orchids. Here we really have true wealth, which we have also legally protected, because all orchids are protected. As far as I know we have 83 species classified into 23 genera. 7 species are still insufficiently researched. Usually borderline species that appear on borders of our country and may appear here too. We have 17 species of Orchis, 14 marsh orchids, the genus of finger orchids is special-10 species-Dactylorhiza, then also cat's ears, helmets, lady's slipper, helleborines, fly orchids, ragged orchid, hand orchid, man orchid, slipper. Interesting habitats for lady's slippers is our Kras, Goriška Brda and Slovenska Istra. Here grows also our highest Adriatic stinking orchid -up to 1 meter high. Sadly I still know too little the genus lady's slippers. Already Orchis I distinguish poorly. In spring I'll try to go also to Kras.

I have already found hand orchids, various bird's-nests, egg-leaved fly orchid-plenty of it in our valley forests and probably some other our orchid representative.
Beautiful lady's slippers, for now I know two locations - Zelenica and Davotov raj.1
They are beautiful - mainly the habitats are more in the shade.2
Of course we cannot do without endemic Kamnik murks.3
Rhellikan's (black) murk we find in JA. I find it in summer on every high mountain tour in JA.4
A peculiarity in JA is widderova murka similar to kamniški murki. Last year I found it 2x.5
In JA we find red or bicolour murka.6
This one is from Velikega Špičja.7
Continuing with orchids that I somehow recognized or maybe not. This is definitely the long-leaved corydalis.8
In spring it is quite common.9
More rarely we find its sister, the damasonium (pale) corydalis. We recognize it by the broader leaves.10
The red corydalis is not common either. I found it for the first time on Jošt.11
This is the two-leaved helleborine, which is also common in spring, even in valley forests. I have also found the greenish greenjak.12
This is the dark red marsh orchid. I have also found the broad-leaved one.13
Here we have the common kukavičnik, which is very similar to kukavice.14
Another picture of the common kukavičnik - this one is from Stari Ljubelj from last spring.15
This is the fragrant kukavičnik - it differs only slightly from the common one.16
Now it's the turn of the kukavice, which I don't distinguish the best so incorrect determinations are possible - this is the common kukavica.17
Elder digitated kukavica.18
Elder kukavica.19
Pale kukavica - common in spring.20
Blunt-leaved kukavica.21
Three-toothed kukavica.22
Speckled-flowered kukavica.23
This should be the spotted digitated kukavica.24
This one is very common - it should be the stately kukavica.25
Brown bird's-nest orchids on Krvavc.26
Brown bird's-nest orchids are also common in lowland forests - these I photographed on the path around the Brdo estate.27
I photographed this pojalnik last year on Krvavec.28
This is Fuchs' fingered kukavica, which is common also in the lowlands. Recognized by spotted narrow leaves.29

Hi guys! Nice for the cultural holiday. Otiv, do you also keep little poems? Will there be a collection? Brane, orchids are also my great love. Unfortunately I don't have nice pics, I'll fix that this year. Do head to the Karst. I'm planning that too. The Adriatic stinking orchid apparently grows in the Haloze too. Lp

Apolonija, top left I know-Fuchs's finger orchid it is-recognizable by spotted narrow leaves, pyramid orchid I know too-surely I'll find it on Kamniški vrh in spring. But don't know the orchid in the big pic bottom left.

You'll surely see this orchid on the Karst, it's the military orchid - Orchis militaris. I like it a lot. Do you know the two-leaved helleborine in the small picture below, next to it is the pale orchid. I saw them on the "pod goram" path from Begunje to Tržič.

Vito, you bring me joy too, same as Brane.

Brane, only now I saw how many more orchids you added, bravo. I think you named them right. If I'm picky, I'm not sure if the picture shows the spotted orchid or its subspecies the summer orchid. Difference: inflorescence rounded at top on first, narrowed towards top on second...
I'm happy now to clearly see the difference between the pale and the yellow elder finger orchid. The elder one has a reddish-spotted honey lip.
I would love to meet the monkey orchid, dentaria and various cat's ears.

Two-leaved helleborine of course I know and pale orchid too. There are plenty of them along pasture edges also in Stiška vas where I went visiting yesterday. In real life I saw what the ice did to the undergrowth in the forest and also to fruit trees. I didn't see a whole tree.

The monkey orchid will have to be searched for on the Karst. I know it's very similar to our three-toothed orchid by inflorescence. Also similar are military and scarlet-reddish. We distinguish by lips. All three or four have dense-compact not too long inflorescence and that's characteristic. I studied all about orchids from Vlado Ravnik handbook - 2002. Ravnik noted these Karst species often hybridize. I know one of these Karst species is much taller than the other two.

Dentaria also needs to be searched for on the Karst. Bee-like cat's ear, fly-like cat's ear grow along Alenka on Kamniški vrh, but I haven't found them yet, nor the tuberous humpback which grows in this area only on Planina Osredek.

Alenka also writes about summer variety - subspecies of spotted flower orchid which she found around Kamniški vrh.

Today I added brown bird's nest and bird's eye from Krvavec.

Last year mid June in Croatian Istria these three flowers remained undetermined among others.
Judging by the flower, it is a kukavica.1
This is another undetermined one.2
And here its characteristic flower.3
Kobulnice are also my yet unexplored project. Here is already one karst kobulnica.4
This is its flower.5

Then both are "learning" from the same source. On Karst I already saw fly-like cat's ear, on LJ. marshes the bumblebee-like one. But these orchids are something special. Dentaria I bought years ago in Italian nursery in Susigardn, but it didn't survive.

Snow and ice did their thing at mine too. Lost precious bushes and treelets. Time to plant only perennials? Lp

Nice and also useful to read
your expert chit-chat, and I'm curious: these are more
flowers of open areas, what about large
forests? I know Kočevje well, is there
anything interesting, more precisely Obkolpje?
Often I see something, only names (oh boy)
are the problem!zadregazadrega

My interest in mountain flora has a short beard. I've always observed mountain flowers on hikes, significantly more in the last ten years. I only started photographing them three seasons ago. Only the year before last did I start macro photography, and only last summer season with a new better camera, but most of the summer shooting season vanished for me. Only this year do I think that at least partly a good season will succeed for me. I have quite a few handbooks and borrow tons from the library. It is true that now I'm more reviewing the flora of the mid-mountain and high-mountain of both our Alps and less Karavanke. This year I plan to check the spring Karst a bit. Kočevje and Obkolpje I don't know at all. This year my big project is botanizing Črna prst every two weeks throughout the whole growing season. If anyone is particularly interested, they can contact me by private mail and we can arrange when for a joint tour to Črna prst or elsewhere. But one must know that with this flora study on the path the hike actually goes very slowly. On average I make 150 flower shots and another 80 panoramas on a full-day hike. Looking forward to spring!

Cico, good evening! Plants have interested me for a long time, but you know how it goes. You observe more near the place where you live, have relatives, spend vacation.... I don't go to Kočevje forests, I'm afraid of bears mrk pogled. It's true, I know that end of Slovenia too little. Maybe you have some plant pictures from there? In any case, I'd like to go under Gorjanci to admire the yellow pheasant's eye. nasmeh

Nice greeting, Antonija! Let me admit that most of the shots were made by
the better half, unfortunately a virus caused us
three years ago the collapse of files
and a huge number of shots went lost,
now we are a bit more literate, we copy to USB stick! I have about 500 slides, even more pictures in photo albums, but
they are useless if not on the stick!
A bit more about forests! We have experienced many things,
but no animal did anything to us,
people, they are the worst! If in the middle
of Trnovski forest, middle of Krim forests,
at Taborska cave they want to break into the car those
most protected native inhabitants of our
little country, you really think twice
how to proceed! In these cases we luckily
were resting in the car, but when those three nicely
tanned guys surround the car, the fourth
waiting with the engine running, you don't have nice
feelings! That's enough, next time about something
nicer LP Vlado nasmehnasmeh

Towards Poljšakova planina and under Veliki
vrh, on the third picture unfortunately they didn't want
to pose next to flowers at least 10
wonderful butterflies, probably mountain
Apollos, as my collector colleague told me
when describing, because they live only in clean
environment, without animal droppings!
Any comment? nasmeh
