Taubenkogel is 2300 meter high peakon which a cross stands in the Dachstein Mountains. The peak is located 7 km south from the center of Hallstatt and 7 km south-southwest from the center of Obertraun. The nearest mountain hut is Simonyhütte, located 1.8km west-southwest. bivouac Modereck is also relatively close. 4 km south-southwest from the summit there is glacier Schladminger Gletscher, 4 km southwest from the summit there is also glacier Großer Gosaugletscher. The peak is located southwest of the valley Koppental.
