Deuter is Mercedes among backpacks. It's made perfectly. I have the Guide and it's meant for alpinism (as few side pockets and various straps as possible that could get caught in the wall, still just right for attaching gear and of course the back system). Choice of backpack of course depends on what you need it for.

Yesterday on Vrtača via Y gully. Conditions good, snow consolidated, only occasionally postholing in forest and through scree. Otherwise snow in gully not plentiful, so need to climb two short sections or dry tooling

LG, is the Y gully on Vrtača nicely filled and what's the snow like on the north side or is it already reworked? Thanks for the answer!

On Friday we plan to go from the saddle to Mangart, Slovenian up, Italian down, so please provide info on current/snow conditions. Thanks and LP!

Self-belay kit with sewn strap is only for single use (if you fall the sewn strap is no longer usable).
With plate and rope it's a bit different. In full fall only the rope "burns" and you have to replace it later, which is much cheaper. In short!

I'm also interested if eastern (Y) gully still passable for winter approach to Vrtača or too much snow melted in these days

I'm also interested if the road to planina Podvežak is drivable. I also plan in the near future (when snowfall eases and fresh snow transforms a bit) from here to Korošica then to Ojstrica summit. Does anyone have info?
