In the last five years I've done the path from Calcit to Velika Planina (Gradišče) more than 300 times. At least my Garmin shows so. Until now I haven't boasted or cluttered forums with it, but now I wonder: how many times has it crept under my skin?

@silvo1952
Isn't it really interesting how much trash you find in various caves and sinkholes on Velika Planina? Various old piskri and building material that tourists surely hauled up there, whom locals say are the worst polluters of the planina.

The easiest is if you go via planina Dol, then planina Rzenik and then to Konj. But try at suitable weather, because I heard that once someone was blown off Konj over the precipice by strong wind.

Yesterday, Sunday, October 12, late afternoon, apparently someone forgot black hiking poles on the table at Micki's hut. Very likely on way down, as I was already among last, or very likely the very last.

I used Garmont for a long time. Lately I wear them only in winter when there's snow, since in dry weather I only use low La Sportiva shoes. Never experienced anything like this. I use these Garmont boots exclusively in snow and for a very long time.

Why would it be acceptable for Tomaž Humar to publicly share his experiences, while someone less known or less experienced couldn't?

As far as I see, you also post a lot of photos and contributions on Blogspot. So what's the reason for those posts, given that you're not as experienced a mountaineer as Tomaž Humar was? Is it perhaps different perception of such content, or does someone find it uncomfortable that some have more likes on YouTube?
iUnknown28. 05. 2025 10:40:45
We mustn't be hypocritical. Just remember Tomaž Humar, who brought a whole radio team to Nepal with him so he could report live about his adventures. His ascents were constantly present in radio shows and news, as that was then the only widely accessible medium for following such feats – no Instagram or YouTube yet. Besides, he also wrote a book about his ascents.

If he were alive today, he would surely be the biggest mountain influencer in Slovenia – first on Instagram and YouTube, where mountain lovers would compete who gives him more likes.

I'd bet that decades ago people were horrified by the same things – only back then hikers who started going to the mountains got on their nerves.

A few years ago I bought Bogdan Kladnik's book and then visited every waterfall he photographed, trying to make similar pictures. In my opinion this is no different from today when people post videos on YouTube – the difference is only that the medium was different back then. Besides, we were quite closed within the country, so foreigners didn't come to us en masse, meaning there wasn't such crowds in the mountains.

I also remember that the path from Vrata to Kredarica in the years when I started going to Triglav was covered with various beer cans. One day in very dense fog on the way from Kredarica I momentarily lost direction, since you couldn't see from one mark to another, so I oriented myself by those cans. This just confirms that people littered years ago too, so I don't think it makes sense to be too horrified by today's influencers who at least clean up after themselves.

I don't know how it is in neighboring countries, but in the USA camping is allowed even in national parks as long as you don't camp on private property (unless you have permission). All these restrictions on camping in nature seem exaggerated to me – after all, there aren't many people who choose that way of staying in the mountains, except maybe foreigners who are used to it from home.

We see that some would like to have restaurant-level offerings in mountain huts, so the idea of sleeping in tents is not close to them at all. Anyway, those who want to camp already do it – only they mostly make sure they're not noticed. I myself sometimes really like to camp because it's an interesting experience. I always make sure I'm not noticeable and clean up thoroughly after myself so you can't even see that someone camped there.

Another well-meaning comment from me.
I looked at maPZS about a good week ago and it doesn't seem overly useful to me, since it's missing quite a few trails.
Buying PZS maps for Locus Map doesn't always seem sensible to me, because OSM maps are much more accurate. True, some trails are a bit poorly drawn, but they are still more accurate and in quite a few cases there are more of them than on PZS maps. Plus, OSM maps are often drawn based on lidar data, while PZS are obviously drawn a bit by eye.

Interesting and instructive, although long.

This really can be called conditions and not like what we can observe under e.g. Velika Planina, where some contributor with his posts surpasses even the once-known-to-all Red Bull but very little of his writings is in any way useful.
iUnknown31. 01. 2023 19:00:27
@Garmont. Maybe you haven't noticed yet that the point of hribi.net forum isn't posting useful mountain condition data, cuz you rarely find it here. More about everyone bragging which molehill they climbed and how the dude looks velik nasmeh

Wind is no big problem if you have enough suitable clothing.
I went to Gradišče from the direction of Domžalski dom when forecast was over 90 km/h. On the ridge under Gradišče it blew so hard I thought it would blow me into the valley. Roughly like driving on the highway with open window.
But on the way back along the road under Gradišče the wind was quite bearable.

Is this the group that lightning struck yesterday afternoon, maybe organized by Ljubitelj gora?

Rescue from Kredarica: first hikers flown to the valley already at 5.40

If this continues, plate carrier will soon become mandatory gear along with helmet for the mountains. And if you don't wear it, every mountaineer will scold you for not having mandatory equipment zavijanje z očmi

@ljubitelj gora / 26.5.2022 22:58:21 / "The later the better, to avoid thunderstorm possibilities"

Keep such wisdom to yourself, so no inexperienced person copies you and actually gets into hail, like yesterday between 7 and 8 pm. Unless for you "as late as possible" means at 11 pm, even then it can be interesting.
