Kozaki,

take a hiking ice axe with slight curve, it will allow you also occasional swing with ice axe. Loop should be at the ice axe head.
Main thing is to practice ice axe arrest every season, also that back and forth variant.

Good luck nasmeh

Attention if you're deciding to buy one ice axe (singular?) Quark is out of consideration. Look at a hiking ice axe, length according to your size.

If you're deciding to buy tools (pair of climbing ice axes for harder couloirs and waterfalls) then the choice really starts. On English forums you have quite a few comparisons available. I would choose ice axes based on:
1. purpose of use (couloir-possibility of sticking shaft in snow, ice-thickness of picks, curvature+possibility of installing leashes, alpine routes-something in between)
2. hand size with glove, go try in the store, swing feel (some ice axes are friendlier to larger hands)
3. price
4. brand
5. other things

ps ask a friend to show you how to use an ice axe, with that you test the model too. Even better go to an alpinism school and rent different ice axes the first year.

Hi, does anyone perhaps know up to where the road to Mangart is drivable. Has the ice in front of the tunnel already closed the road?

Hello, yesterday I was on Golica, where narcissi are only on lower meadows around Planine village under Golica, above the hut I could count them on the fingers of one hand. But auriculas, alpine bellflowers etc. and lots of beautiful mugo pines.

Hello Tadej,

you often cheer me up with your daily description of conditions at Ljubelj, but lately you provide too little information and too many useless photos. I mean those photos that don't show conditions and have no greater artistic value. Ask yourself if you would save all those photos to your PC/archive?? If not, in my opinion you don't need to share them.
I would like a sentence like: Along the path the snow cover thickness varies, upper layer is XX cm thick dry snow, etc.. °C, icy sledding area, drifts, and no more than 3 condition photos + some artistic... everything else is unnecessary ballast.
This is my criticism, good luck!

Posting again, given the picture quality the species was really hard to determine. From the responses of consulted biologists, it's most likely brine shrimps. They are up to 1 cm in size with a large number of gills, could be genus Artemia (possibly brownish), species maybe Artemia salina, as it lives in very salty environments and matches the description I gave. The lake had no visible inlet or outlet and might have been salty.

For more reliable ID I'll have to visit the location again nasmeh

Hello,

today I'm turning to you to identify the animal species. On a recent trek in Nepal at 4500 m altitude in a small lake I encountered a multitude of little creatures (27°54'21.3"N 86°49'59.9"E), which I don't know where to place. Maybe larvae of some insect? I'd certainly appreciate any help, as it honestly puzzles me what lives so high.

Can someone help? Pictures aren't the best...

Hello,

finally temperatures dropped below 0°C. So I hope we can exchange data on ice conditions in our mountains here on the forum.
Has anyone perhaps turned into Tamar and checked the waterfalls?
Do you think there will be enough ice this weekend?

Thanks for info, I'll check on TK gore too. Good luck

Hi, planning Marmolada week 23-30.7. Anyone been up this year, conditions?
Based on conditions decide if need gondola.
Planning glacier route, is rope team mandatory or path trodden and crevasses protected?

Hello, what are the conditions on Stol like? Especially the summit part: icy or just snowy? Or should I take hiking crampons or small crampons tomorrow? LP
