@Arsu 30.05. Went up from that side. The path is normally passable, upper part (gully) still has snow, but doable without winter gear.

We prefer Stol from Austrian side, but long way there. Applies to car to Medji dol and footpath from Ljubelj. We do latter, scenic and always beautiful nasmeh.

Ferrata excellent condition, no snow long ago. Huge crowd on Stol, more annoying flies, didn't visit jewelry shop. Too expensive last year already zavijanje z očmi. Return via eastern scree and upper path back to Zelenica. Overall tour great, just too hot quickly. More in photo-story …

Today we went to Stol from Valvazorjev dom via the Žirovniška path. Return over Potoški Stol and Vajnež to the valley past the bivouac at Belščica to Potoška planina. Clouds to 1800m, above sunny and warm. Snow traces, many people.
Warning about wasp nest on Žirovniška at ~1500m where most fallen trees. Swarm from hole by path. Stung the first in the group, rest bypassed via steep forest. Followers also complained they were stung.

Today a nice tour via Sevško Zabreška planina to Stol. Descent the same path. The path itself without special features, very little snow. Windy at the summit, wonderful views.

Yesterday up and down the Žirovniška, not the best choice. Middle section very icy, many dry sections too. So you can choose - crampons on and off many times up and down, or walking with them on dry rocks and ground. Apparently Zabreška is much better choice these days, completely dry. In the summit ascent part, no gear needed.

Barriers raised, car up to 900m or asphalt then ice on road. Above junction straight up unmarked path to Vragovec, then road to planina, marked path to Mali Stol, to here no winter gear, for Stol used crampons. Descent normal path with crampons. Snow, ice, smooth roots, went slowly.

Today via the Žirovnica trail to the summit.nasmeh
The barriers are raised, dry road to Valvasor. Snow on the trail starts at approx. 1400m. In the morning it was firm and very comfortable for walking. Above Prižnica we put on crampons and thus comfortably to the top. Since we were early, nothing gave way on the descent either.mežikanje Actually…ideal conditions.

Two days ago, view from Koča pod Stolom towards Stol. There's still a little snow, but with good footwear it shouldn't be a problem.

Yesterday up via Žirovniška and down via Zabreška.
The path is snow-free. Snow is still right below the summit (picture in the post above).

After a long time we went to Stol again on Saturday (son's wish before his birthday nasmeh). We rode by bike from in front of the Penny store in Bistrica in the Rosental to the Celovška hut and then a jump to Stol. The company and weather were excellent velik nasmeh. Nice tour.

Today the climbing route Trate / Johannsenruhe - Stol was completed.
- The path to the starting point, the last few km, is bad, but it can be driven slowly even with a low car
- Pleasant climbing upwards
- No more snow
- SVK not necessarily needed
- Descent via Svačica (scree) and Celovška hut without problems

All in all a quite nice tour nasmeh

Today conditioning hike up there. To avoid the heat I start from the hunting lodge already at half past six, and the sun first shines in my eyes only at the end of the dwarf pines. Low cloud cover more or less persisted, the Julian Alps were covered all the time. When I reach the top and look towards Austria I was slightly 'warmed' at the thought of last year's experience. No people on the top, both huts completely empty. In front of the entrance to Prešernova a beautiful terrace with nice new benches has 'grown'. I also went to peek into Valvasor's and got the feeling that the caretaker is superfluous even to himself.velik nasmeh At Završnica everything fenced, reminds me a bit of Gonars. So I wouldn't leave the car in the wrong place or trample the meadow.
