Just for you, Drago! At Valvazor, Prižnica and parking. Dry clothes, snack and phone were 'safe' in backpack till back to Valvazor. True, Matija. As you know, I spend a lot of time on Vel'ka, I hear similar stories too, from hut keepers up all summer. Once you lose direction and no known landmark, you're in total darkness. When additionally blinded by icy snow slope, wind gusts moving and snowing you, soaked gloves can't feel fingers...and forget phone in pack that saves you.

My soaked wool gloves warm me. Just on Saturday on Porezen they proved that good property.

hi, has anyone been to the summit these days? looking from Kranj from the valley and see some snow patches in the gullies and planning the standard route from the south from Valvasor this weekend. Maybe someone knows how it is from the hut to the summit, if the path is already completely dry?

Maybe someone knows if the path from Valvasorjev dom to Stol is already dry?

I was up there on 1.5. via the Žirovnica path. Then there were small snow patches above 1900m, completely passable and no obstacle. According to the camera pic, now it's similar, probably even smaller.

I can give you even more up-to-date info. Here (in the last post, from 25.5.) I posted a pic from Jamnik towards Stol & co. Sunday morning: https://www.hribi.net/trenutne_razmere/slo/begunjscica/11/633 What the situation is like now, I don't know, but I know that in good weather it's seen even better from the motorway rest area near Radovljica, maybe there's a camera there?

Does anyone have info on how the climbing route from the Austrian side is? Is winter gear still needed? Thanks

When I was on Stol on Saturday, I saw a couple of Austrians with helmets and climbing harnesses. I don't know more. Maybe something can be seen on the webcam of Celovec hut.

@forzicija, so that's the so-called Žirovniška path?

@Arsu 30.05. Went up from that side. The path is normally passable, upper part (gully) still has snow, but doable without winter gear.

We too on Stol on Saturday. Comfortably by car to Trat, two free parking spots there, then leisurely—which is modern—to the entrance and onwards to the summit. Safeguards flawless, markings aplenty, alone from entrance to summit due to early start, quite high under summit in shade. On summit rest and snack, met those two who did the long one, their description just before mine. Pleasant chat, then each their own way. We sat a bit longer before heading down too. To notch under Svačica not quite smooth, some extra exercise "for the diligent ones", to hut casually. There tasty stew and something to drink, short rest in shade, then the last bit to car, good part in beneficial forest shade. In Bistrica ice cream and that's it till next time https://tubojan.blogspot.com/2025/06/stol-plezalnaklettersteig.html
