Just for you, Drago! At Valvazor, Prižnica and parking. Dry clothes, snack and phone were 'safe' in backpack till back to Valvazor.nasmeh
True, Matija. As you know, I spend a lot of time on Vel'ka, I hear similar stories too, from hut keepers up all summer. Once you lose direction and no known landmark, you're in total darkness. When additionally blinded by icy snow slope, wind gusts moving and snowing you, soaked gloves can't feel fingers...and forget phone in pack that saves you.velik nasmeh

My soaked wool gloves warm me. Just on Saturday on Porezen they proved that good property.

hi, has anyone been to the summit these days? looking from Kranj from the valley and see some snow patches in the gullies and planning the standard route from the south from Valvasor this weekend. Maybe someone knows how it is from the hut to the summit, if the path is already completely dry?

I was up there on 1.5. via the Žirovnica path. Then there were small snow patches above 1900m, completely passable and no obstacle. According to the camera pic, now it's similar, probably even smaller.

I can give you even more up-to-date info. Here (in the last post, from 25.5.) I posted a pic from Jamnik towards Stol & co. Sunday morning:
https://www.hribi.net/trenutne_razmere/slo/begunjscica/11/633 What the situation is like now, I don't know, but I know that in good weather it's seen even better from the motorway rest area near Radovljica, maybe there's a camera there?

On Saturday I was on Stol. Via path Valvasorjev dom - Mali Stol - Stol - Potoški Stol - bivouac Na Belšici - Valvasorjev dom. The path is dry, little snow still in gully to Stol.

Does anyone have info on how the climbing route from the Austrian side is? Is winter gear still needed? Thanks

When I was on Stol on Saturday, I saw a couple of Austrians with helmets and climbing harnesses. I don't know more. Maybe something can be seen on the webcam of Celovec hut.

@forzicija, so that's the so-called Žirovniška path?

@Arsu 30.05. Went up from that side. The path is normally passable, upper part (gully) still has snow, but doable without winter gear.

We prefer Stol from Austrian side, but long way there. Applies to car to Medji dol and footpath from Ljubelj. We do latter, scenic and always beautiful nasmeh.

Ferrata excellent condition, no snow long ago. Huge crowd on Stol, more annoying flies, didn't visit jewelry shop. Too expensive last year already zavijanje z očmi. Return via eastern scree and upper path back to Zelenica. Overall tour great, just too hot quickly. More in photo-story …
In the morning dusk we park at Ljubelj in front of the border crossing. It will be a hot day1
Plot is first exposed to the sun's rays. They haven't reached us yet2
The hut is still in deep shadow. No wind, no special coolness either3
Vrtača across Mala glava4
We are headed for Stol, only from the Austrian side5
View back at Begunjščica and the northern access6
Srednji vrh, friendly summit near Koča pri izviru Završnice7
At the saddle where the path to Vrtača splits off we turn towards Vatelca8
View of the scree fields down which we will descend from Stol9
Svačica. Left of it we turn into Austria10
Descending towards Celovška koča. In the background Ovčji vrh, also named Kozjak11
Descent is quite crowded, rocky in places12
Celovška koča. They have electricity for export :)13
We two must first descend steeply. In the background Vajnež14
At the bottom of that spur is the entrance part of the ferrata. The original ferrata had entrance much higher15
Descent runs along marked paths, although trodden everywhere16
Hochstuhl Klettersteig, or in local terms ferrata on Stol17
First need to tackle the nasty scree where continuation is occasionally questionable18
Already from afar we spot the traffic in the via ferrata. First the sound, then the image :)19
Entrance to the via ferrata20
The entry and subsequent traverse are somehow the most demanding parts of the via ferrata21
We gear up and grasp the steel cables. It's hot and without a breeze22
We quickly overtake the first two23
But there's a lot of traffic and almost all are from Slovenia :)24
Hellishly hot. We'll have to go up there25
View back26
The continuation is no longer as demanding as at the beginning27
Green dots are appearing everywhere, the meaning of which I don't know28
Beside them there are occasionally official markers as well29
Somewhere in the middle of the via ferrata …30
Further on, rocks and scrub alternate31
View of Kozjek32
In the upper part of the via ferrata there is also a logbook33
Just below the summit there are plenty of such flower cushions34
We're back in Slovenia. A little more ascent awaits us35
Pleasant company at the summit :)36
Descending the eastern path over scree. It's like a cauldron here37
View back. Shortcuts are worn to bare rock38
Due to the heat we abandon the lower path idea and head towards Vrtača39
Return on the morning path. At least a little wind here40
Along the path …41
Hut at Zelenica. Surprisingly no ice cream this year42
Return to the valley …43
GPS track of the hiked path. Accumulated 20 km and 1900 elevation gain44

We too on Stol on Saturday. Comfortably by car to Trat, two free parking spots there, then leisurely—which is modern—to the entrance and onwards to the summit. Safeguards flawless, markings aplenty, alone from entrance to summit due to early start, quite high under summit in shade. On summit rest and snack, met those two who did the long one, their description just before mine. Pleasant chat, then each their own way. We sat a bit longer before heading down too. To notch under Svačica not quite smooth, some extra exercise "for the diligent ones", to hut casually. There tasty stew and something to drink, short rest in shade, then the last bit to car, good part in beneficial forest shade. In Bistrica ice cream and that's it cool till next time nasmeh
