Luna, you probably mean Valvazor hut under Stol. That one is open all the time.

On 1.6. I was on Stol. Southern paths are all dry, snow is only left in the valley between Prešernova hut and Stol summit. Freshly fallen snow was almost taken by the sun yesterday.

Prešernova hut on Stol is confirmed open. Very friendly caretakers and excellent offer. Yesterday up there about 10-15cm snow, but didn't make any special problems.

I'm interested in the path from Zelenica to Suho rušje to Vrtača (know up to here) then from Vrtača to Belščica saddle via "upper path" to Stol. Is it a trodden path? Thanks and regards.

Hi! From Vrtača continue on the normal path into the valley. On the ridge where the path turns sharply back to the left, on the right side there is a wonderful view on the scree below Vrtača. Here turn to the well-visible and trodden path over the scree. The path is not drawn on the map, there is also no sign on the ridge, but it is marked. The path descends slightly, only the last few meters rise slightly to the Belščica saddle. The path is short, very nice and shortens the access to the Belščica saddle greatly. Wonderful views on the walls of Vrtaška škrbina under which you walk and of course Stol, Celovška špica, Jelenčki,.. LP Andrej

On Sunday we checked the conditions ourselves. The tour is really first league, protections excellent but weather third league, didn't spoil the great impression!
I miss the description on Hribi.net (otherwise in the book: 50 secured climbing paths)

Yesterday, Sunday, I was on Stol. Started at half past six from Valvazorjev dom. Nice tour, no snow at all. Cold like hell. At Prešernova hut -5°C, wind so strong that it felt like 10 degrees colder. Wonderful trip, hut still open till next week. Closing Sunday 28.9.2008

ojla today we went from Ljubelj to Stol. Tour great, sunshine perfect, last 100m some snow so little caution doesn't hurt, otherwise first league

Today I used the Žirovnica path for descent from Stol. Snow ends about 200 elevation meters below the summit, the further path is dry, nicely passable. On Stol there was a nice sunny day today, so the snow was melting quite fast. I think the high temperatures in these few days will take most of the snow. LP Andrej

Today's most wonderful day was dedicated to Stol and unique views towards Bled, Julians on one side, on the other Karavanke, Košuta, Vrtače ... and at the end on descent still a photo of the beautiful lady MUŠNICA.

Snow on Stol is just a little bit under the summit, which is easily crossed, as it warms up during the day, I also hope for a nice next weekend and some path in high mountains.
