Hribolaznik wrote well. Some stick to these myths and suffer with heavy high boots. It's true, low boots won't last 15 years, but with intensive walking maybe 3-4 months, but it's worth it. I put on the boots, after e.g. 10 hours take them off, during the tour don't fuss with them. When worn out, buy new ones

Don't fear trying dedicated low hiking boots or mountain running shoes. You'll be surprised and regret why you didn't start using them earlier. These are my experiences - so no one jumps up in the air
