@VanSims: hard to put much on hutkeeper's opinion if he himself doesn't check path conditions that day or day before. Most reliable opinion is from people who walked the specific path themselves and have most up-to-date info for that day.
If ALL 11 of us climbers who walked Kopinškova to Ojstrica on Saturday morning judged it safe to pass without winter gear, then no sense talking about winter conditions on that path anymore.

Yesterday on Ojstrica, up Kopinškova ridge, down Škarje valley. In my PERSONAL experience all passable without winter gear.
On Kopinškova under summit that snowfield covers about 15 m of path over scree. Snow at 12 not hard, quite softened, due to steepness I decided to bypass it on the lower side over scree. Careful steps and no problem.
Descent through Škarje: 3 snowfields (2 smaller between Ojstrica and Škarje, no issues) and large snowfield (quite southern-facing snow) covers marked path under north face of Ojstrica, about 80 m long. Since slope fairly gentle, I crossed it... with poles no trouble.
Everything else on path super and OK.

Excellent! Bojan, when you know approximately when Marjan can be expected in Ankaran, please write up here so we go congratulate the new record holder!nasmeh

Exceptional, really speechless.
Bojan, will Nanos fall today already? How far does he plan to go or where will he sleep?

marjanz: wau, that's a challenge only for the best! Hats off already for even embarking on the project to attack the new record! nasmeh

Can you write the planned route for 17th and 18th August so we know where we can cheer you on next weekend in the mountains?

So, last Sunday (28.7) I was on the route: Zadnjica - over Komar - Kanjavec Shelves - Vršac - Prehodavci - Zadnjica.

The path over Komar is well trodden, excellently secured, just need to watch at the junction to this path at the start, the inscription on the stone has faded quite a bit and it can be easily missed.

Kanjavec Shelves: before the entrance there's one snowfield, not problematic to cross without winter gear, on the shelves themselves a couple of miniature snowfields (probably gone today). Six days ago I only used the ice axe for one, and even that snowfield could be bypassed below it. The path is not suitable for people with vertigo or those afraid of heights. Otherwise it's beautiful and scenic! nasmeh

I have one question: the Petra Skalar hut is closed until further notice. Does anyone maybe have some information if it will be open at all in this summer season and if it will be possible to sleep there?

Janez Seliškar, thanks for the infos. nasmeh
I'll be careful, yes... anyway, action on Sunday, then I'll write something here.
don Sergio24. 07. 2013 12:07:25
Thanks everyone for the info. By Sunday some snow will melt more, but from what I've read and seen I'll definitely take the ice axe so no surprises.nasmeh

@Janez Seliškar: I have a question about Vršac too. From the col do we go right up to Vršac? They say the path isn't marked, what about orientation and difficulty of that summit section?

Last weekend on VDV. Route: Rudno polje - Kačji rob - Srenjski preval - Na kontah - VDV - Studorski preval - Planina Konjščica - Rudno polje.

The path is wonderful, well marked, the unmarked path to VDV summit orientationally not demanding, cairns help, otherwise the trail is already well trodden and visible. Just a bit to watch on the descent through the dwarf pines to Studorski preval. For the finish we got tasty cow cheese at Planina Konjščica, in short, super loop!

Hello!

Has anyone hiked the Kanjavčev Shelves last week? I'm mainly interested in the "snow" condition of the path... I know that snow usually lingers quite late into summer in a couple of gullies, so I'm wondering if it's possible to cross the shelves in current conditions without winter gear? Or does it still make sense to pack the ice axe on the backpack...

Funnyboy, thanks for the info.

Hi.
I'm wondering if anyone knows when Dom Zorka Jelinčiča on Črna prst opens? If anyone has any info about it... is it possible they open it already the second weekend in June, 8th or 9th June? Probably depends a lot on the weather too?

I didn't know exactly where to post the conditions on my path, so let it be here.nasmeh

So on Wednesday, May 1st, done tour: Mislinja - Črni vrh - Ribniška koča - Lovren Lakes - Rogla - Volovica - Mislinja.
To Črni vrh mostly dry, just here and there small snow patch, "highway" between Črni vrh and Ribniška koča still snowy, to Ribniški vrh dry again. From here on snow again, where no snow, quite some water. At Ribniško sedlo completely dry, as we climb to the height of Lovren Lakes snow amount increases. Here and towards Rogla conditions almost wintery with snow amount (10-30 cm), good that pleasant spring sun shines, allowing walking in short sleeves. At Rogla practically no snow, when I head back into forest towards Volovica, snow appears again. When I descend from Volovica below 1400m, snow gone for good and circle closed in Mislinja.

In short, to sum up, in Pohorje forests (this area) above 1400m still quite some snow, meadows already dry, otherwise thanks to melting snow quite some water everywhere. Path wonderful, views nice, Pohorje forests lush, definitely worth seeing and strolling.

For May 1st I expected more visitors, crowd only on Lovren Lakes - Rogla section.

Nice regards.
