Sadly I agree with SunBurned... First sweep in front of your own doorstep, only then in front of others. Sadly your son was equally, if not more exposed to danger than that young guy with opanke. You know, you can't imagine what consequences a 1cm diameter stone falling from great height can have. The PD president explained/told me that happened to her hiker. That little stone just whistled when it hit the helmet, and there was a solid crack on the helmet... Helmet was only good for trash. So use your brains in the mountains.

Okmodko, some have such jobs or employments that we can't choose the day, let alone the weather for the mountains... When there is time, usually only Sunday or holiday (that Saturday was an exception because plans were basically different) and weather as it is, we go (exception are forecasted thunderstorms). And secondly, rain doesn't throw me off in principle. Even in rain mountains have their charm...

Last Sunday (7.8.) it rained quite a bit on us on the way back over Komarča. As they say, Bohinj has young rain... Two hikers overtook us, one had an open umbrella. It looked pretty awkward going downhill, and quite dangerous to me... In short, we two had nothing special against the rain on, just spare clothes in the backpack and in the car, as always, and of course the obligatory part of the equipment: homemade blueberries... I'd rather be wet and then change, than risk with some umbrellas etc. And even now on Saturday we got a bit wet from a shower that caught us on descent through Sovatna.

------------------------------------ SkipEU 16.8.2011 Everyone has the right to endanger themselves (don't understand why anyone would care?). If you play that card that you can't endanger yourself, then you can ban almost all human activities. ------------------------------------ Stupid thinking, in my opinion (if direct) from a stupid head... Igor already answered you nicely, and I join his answer. And this doesn't apply only to hiking, but also to other sports... In any case others bear the consequences, be it rescuers (yes, even the ambulance driver risks his life), family, relatives...

GregorC In my opinion, it's better to hike this path in the opposite direction to what you wrote... Vršič - Vratca - Slemenova Špica - via Hanzova towards MM - Nad Šitno Glavo - back to Hanzova and to MM top - descent southern path

I also called Planika, Dolič and Prehodavci, and also Kredarica and it's booked everywhere this weekend. So planned circular tour (pl. Blato - Vodnik - Kredarica - summit - Dolič - 7J - Štapce - pl. Blato) will wait a month when no crowds. Most likely space for 2 would be found somewhere, but I don't want queues on Triglav. So our plan B Kriški podi and peaks there (hope there's some free at Pogačnik)

And are all these lab drinks even healthy for the liver, kidneys etc.?

Today my wife and I visited Viševnik, somewhat unplanned (original idea bit different). As we were bit out of practice, didn't want overdo (if not 100%, better safe option)... Nice hike, weather gorgeous, almost too hot (thanks mom nature for wind), views gorgeous too, just crowd like in hypermarkets... Some path snapshots on pics...

I assume winter gear is mandatory, given how much snow there still is up there...

Can't help myself... Tinky nicely describes the path he did with pics, individuals are busy with whether on one pic it's avrikelj or tall jeglič. Regards

Today I went on a shorter tour, mainly due to the forecasted afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Specifically from Planina Dol to Konj. Practically no hikers, only met the owner of the hut on Planina Rzenik during the ascent, and on top of Konj one couple who came to the top via Presedljaj. On the return another middle-aged couple. The path was somewhat slippery in places due to rain from previous days, but passable without issues. On top I had great luck with the weather, had sun, views above expectations... When I started descending, clouds came, which later dropped their load... But it was obviously a real highway to Velika Planina. Tons of cars along the road... Konj though calm, peaceful, above all rewards with wonderful views all around. Edit: No pics unfortunately, camera (point-and-shoot) let me down, so pics are disastrous. Gotta slowly get something better, new...

One comment on the sign about dog shit... This wouldn't be necessary (putting up the sign), if every owner knew to pick up the dog poop with a bag when it "produces" it and releases it into the air... It's not pleasant to see dog turds everywhere (park, sidewalk, underpasses, planinas...). I have nothing against dogs, no mistake, quite the opposite, just this shit bothers me. I was also on V. Planina today and it was quite pleasant in its own way, since there weren't so many visitors. Just the views were missing, and a little rain washed us on the way back to Kranjski Rak... Maybe we even met somewhere, who knows

I've never been and never will be a fan of some lab products like gels, isotonic drinks, redbulls, and I don't know what combinations of pills and more. Chocolate for energy, banana too, and some good piece of homemade kiblflajš, tomato, cucumber, pepper, wholegrain bread... For thirst mostly water with a bit of salt added, sometimes a few drops of lemon juice, but not always... And of course good homemade blueberry liquor with handpicked blueberries and home-distilled fruit spirit from apples from own orchard for that final touch... I just want to hike in the mountains even after Abraham, not in hospitals because of problems with liver, kidneys and whatever due to hi-tech lab sports food and drink.
