From the road in Krnica along the logging road towards station B. Snow starts at height approx. 1300m, at station C there's over 40 cm, higher up at least 60 cm. Skiing conditions very good up to 1800m (pršič), lower south-facing but still satisfactorily skiable snow, all the way to the second hollow below station C (ca. 1450 m.a.s.l.).

One thing is the map made by highly educated cartographers from Ljubljana, another are the names used by simple locals on the ground. An acquaintance from Soča knows Plazijanske and Trebiške Lope, hasn't heard of Goriški Ridge, Veliko Špičje doesn't sound very local to him either. But obviously what the cartographers drew counts and probably in time only the "official" names will prevail completely.

Regarding the course of Chersi path "dolinka" is quite right - start from the Grego hut, past bivouacs Stuparič and Mazzeni to Pellarini hut at the end.

For better prepared completely doable in one day (8-10 hours moderate walking without stops).

For me it's and will be just Stol and no local says otherwise. Igor claims Breginjski is correct, but I think in Breginj they'd look at him equally surprised as if he said Kobariški.

Problem arose like with many other names at annexation of Primorska - then we got Kobariški or Breginjski Stol, Grahovo ob Bači, Trnovo ob Soči and similar concoctions.

Šodrovc - exactly as you say. In the photo are Skala and Male Špice in the ridge between Predel and Mangart Saddle.

The water will flow to the Adriatic Sea, from the other side of the ridge to the Black Sea, but not through our country's territory (at least initially)...

The next riddle should be this one:

Mahavšček via the hunter's path from Dobrenjščica.

This forum was completely friendly until one day the negativists from PZS forum stuck to it.

I often check forums www.vieferrate.it and planetmountain.com, and I've never seen sarcastic answers, even if the question is ever so "stupid" or beginner.

Igor

I'm interested how far you drove along the road and if the traffic ban still applies on it?
hudson23. 11. 2009 20:58:42
Super pics!

Is the road open now? A week ago there was a sign below "prohibited for all traffic", so I didn't risk damaging the undercarriage or something worse.
