On Sunday we visited the Mauthner Klamm gorge again after five years
through which the Valentinbach stream flows. The starting point for the gorge is in Austrian Carinthia in the settlement of Kötscah Mauthen, specifically at the parking lot by the Schwimbad swimming pool in Mauthen. We get there via the Gail Valley through Hermagor further to Kötscah Mauthen, in Mauthen we continue towards Plöckenpass pass, when the road in the old part of the settlement turns right towards the pass we continue straight through narrow streets to the parking lot at Schwimbad. From here everything is marked and in approx. 20 min we are at the road before the entrance to the gorge. The 1st part of the path is suitable for everyone and leads along the stream, through tunnels and over bridges of the Valentinbach stream. At the end of the 1st part of the path the secured path Klabautersteig begins, which for the most part runs through water, sometimes reaching the knees. The path is excellently marked with red dots and arrows which show us the easiest passages over the stream and along it. On all difficult parts it is secured with steel cables and pins and staples help us. The difficulty of the secured parts reaches C grade on one part, so SVK kit is needed. The rock is wet and slippery so constant caution is needed. On the path there are two steep emergency exits on the right side along the stream upwards but I don't recommend them.
For the path we needed 4 hours in slow pace, marked is I think 3 hours.
Return is possible via Romerweg path on the right side above the stream or by road which leads to Plöckenpass on the left side.
It's good to have two cars so we can return to the starting point to the first one, we returned to the starting point by hitchhiking. We visited the gorge already in 2012, winter 2013/2014 caused so much damage that they reopened it only this May. Compared to 2012 it has undergone quite a lot of changes and is also shorter by approx. 20 min and thus in the last part of the secured path a detour through the forest is made. The gorge is very picturesque, sometimes dark and almost closed, sheer walls rise 200m high in places, on the path there are 6 waterfalls and very nice pools in which the brave can swim. Visiting the gorge and walking in cold water is a special experience worth a visit. I recommend visit in hot months, however before the visit check the passability status of the gorge, possibly at the tourist office in Kötscah Mauthen.

The starting point of this ferrata is the settlement Baitoni on the north of Lago d'Idro lake or the place Vesta on the eastern side of the lake. We two went from Baitoni where we parked before the autocamp first along the path by the lake towards the landing pier and already immediately we ran into signs which directed us uphill. After the ascent we came to the road where the signposts directed us right and already soon left onto the Kontrabbandieri path. On this path which is on all steep crossings secured with a steel cable we go towards Vesta quarry. Signposts later after the descent direct us right towards the entrance-descent to the ferrata. From the starting point to the entrance is cca 1h. Interesting ferrata which runs right by the lake and later on slopes above the lake. For variety they added a hanging bridge. Difficulty of the ferrata by my estimate at the hardest places B/C. Hardest is the entrance or descent to the lake in the initial part. Special features are three emergency exits where you call 118 and they come to pick you up by boat. Time for the ferrata is cca 2h. We return by the path to the fork where the path to Kontrabbandieri branches off.

As I read on the 3 Zinnen Dolomites site, entry to P3 and P4 is possible without reservation before 9:30 and after 16:00. For the in-between time, online payment of 40€ is required, of which 20€ is consumption. P1 and P2 are also payable if free. Exit is possible anytime.

The path from bottom up is not marked, but well trodden. If you don't see the path yourselves, ask at the hut.

Yesterday on Špik hude police. Path without peculiarities, only lots of people and ibex along the path and on the path. On return we bathed in Rabeljsko jezero. Curiosity: no toll or parking at Pecol, no parking or entrance fee at Rabeljsko jezero.

Did anyone go to Bovec Chamois over Luknja and back through Sovatno? Is there still snow anywhere?

Midweek we walked this path. The girls after via ferrata Merlone climbed to the top of Cima Cadin N/E. The path is extremely picturesque and in pure wilderness. On the first part of the path there were still some travelers, on the second part we met only three. We slept in Rifugio Fonda Savio where service was excellent (overnight with half board for members 54€).
Second day upon arrival at Rifugio Auronzo the parking at the hut was full already at 9am, so tourists up only by buses.

Today at 9:30 on Kriška gora. Doors closed and door surprise notice of summer hut operation. PZS Slovenia site says hut permanently open. At hut talked to disappointed hiker from Ljutomer who wanted to continue to Tolsti vrh and lunch at Dom pod Storžičem. Bigger disappointment. No idea what's up with hut staffing around Tržič.

For Austria and Dolomites Bergfex is quite accurate. Forecast is also by hours and wind is included.

Up ferrata Sartor to Monte Peralbo and descent via Pope Wojtyla path. Sometimes ferrata Sartor split into two branches shortly before the end of the cables, today the right one is abandoned. The descent gully of the pope's path is completely worn.

Ferrata Colodri:

Ferrata Colodri leads to the top of Colodri - 400 m above the town of Arco, next to Riva del Garda.
The starting point is in front of the Arco autocamp and right after crossing the road we encounter the first signs directing us to the ferrata along the path among rock boulders where there is also a climbing kindergarten. After 10 minutes we reach the start of the cables which lead us along ledges in chimneys to the top of the ferrata. The ferrata is family-friendly and accordingly easy, max difficulty B. Attention should be paid to the smooth rock and the time of the visit. Most of the day it is exposed to the sun and it is quite hot in the summer months. If we visit it at the appropriate time of year, we can refresh ourselves with figs growing along the path. The ferrata is very popular, also with children, so patience is not superfluous. The hardest part is at the exit from which we step onto the gentle slope of Colodri hill. We follow the marks to the cross on the top and continue the descent along the path to the church Maria di Laghel. From there along the path under the castle we descend to the town of Arco and along the road back to the starting point. For the ascent and descent we need about 2 h. When in Arco, we should see the old part of the town, which was interesting to us due to the concentration of shops with hiking and climbing equipment. Prices in shops of world-famous brands with such equipment are the same as in Slovenia or even lower.

We too at the end of July hiked-climbed the described ferrata in the same direction starting from Biacesa. Definitely ferrata Susatti is a special experience worth a visit.
The ferrata is very well secured, not too hard, but more caution is needed on the paths which are
very scenic yet precipitous. After the descent ferrata Mario Foletti which is in the same range as Susatti we descended to bivak Arcioni.
In the bivak there were just older locals and we chatted a bit. We drank coffee and beer
(two Turkish coffees + a little beer=4€ nasmeh. From the bivak right after the bend we came to the little church and from there continued to the top of Cime Rocce. The path goes through tunnels from the 1st World War. First we went to the top, then across the top to the other side and through the longer tunnel under the top to the junction where we had turned up before.
Everything is nicely marked and secured. Super trip.

Path Strada degli Alpini under Cima Undici.
JORDAN13. 09. 2015 18:43:32
Descent is along the normal approach path which is also described under the list of mountains. We tried the via ferrata yesterday, but the left easier variant. Short and sweet. The initial common D makes the selection which is right and the entry to E is very steep and already there everyone knows where they belong. On the via ferrata there are quite a few steps on the ground which can be quite a problem when wet.
