Winter idyll is rare in Goriška and this time it was no different. A few snowflakes, momentarily sugared roofs (on Saturday) and all the beauty was over. Already a few meters above Nova Gorica, a winter fairy tale. Up the corridor to the top of Sabotin the snow cover thickened from meter to meter, towards the top about 30 cm of completely dry snow (more in drifted places), so there was some tramping training on the way. The idyll was occasionally enhanced by the sun around noon today, all the way to the ridge.... when conditions changed in an instant: cold, a fairly strong bora was blowing, carrying snow. Nevertheless, it was a pity to head straight down to the valley, so I extended along the ridge to sv. Valentin. On the way the bora really shifts you, luckily it can't shift you over the steep walls to the Soča, as it blows in the opposite direction. Below the church I turn on the Italian side back to the starting point, no one in front of me yet... Winter fairy tales are rare with us, and if they happen, they pass quickly. Given the forecast temperatures and snow amount, this time it might last a few more days.
