Matterhorn / Monte Cervino

UROS116. 04. 2009 21:30:04
Hello,

I'm asking if anyone is going to Matterhorn this year too, I'd really like to visit this mighty mountain, the most beautiful mountain in the world for me.

I conquered Matterhorn with the help of two guides (we were four) already at 22 years old.

If there will be an expedition to the top of this mighty king of mountains this year too, I'd ask if you could take me along - I know what awaits me!

Best regards and hope someone lets me know if they're going - we share costs and burdens and enjoy together!

Greetings to all,

Matterhorn is a very crumbly mountain! The ascent went excellently for me (ascent at 3:00 a.m., summit at 11:00, so 8 hours ascent).
The descent is much more demanding on those Matterhorn ledges, so the mountain is not suitable for inexperienced mountaineers. Descent can also take 8 hours.

"You can still manage up, but down, yes the descent is much harder, most accidents on this
mountain happened during the descent).

Best time is end of June, July and early August.

No markings on this mountain, no pitons and fixed ropes, only on some most exposed parts a strong rope is fixed.

But it is true that when one conquers this mountain, the trip stays forever in good memory and wherever one sees this mountain can say - I was there and sat on the top of the king of all mountains!
From afar and from Zermatt valley this mountain is a real magnet that pulls to it.

Which 4000ers have I already climbed?
So far as said on Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.

This year already three winter ascents of Triglav.

I hope and really wish there will also this year be an expedition from Slovenia to Matterhorn, to which I could join.

Greetings to all,

Uros

Hello,
I would ask if someone who's already been up there can tell me what gear is needed. How long rope (so I don't carry 70m if not needed), do I need protections (friends, nuts...), how many abseils, are stations set up, do I have to leave prusiks there (how many prusiks do I need) since I'm going alone?
And if someone maybe knows, is our insurance still sufficient, or is it necessary to get insurance in Zermatt again?
Regards Ludwig

UROS1 yes with Ormož guys we're going to Zermatt tomorrow 30.7. 31 probably ascent to little Matterhorn and next day to Matterhorn. But all depends on the weather.

I'm interested if anyone has a pic with route map or something similar. And if they'd send it to me. Thanks.

Since I'm planning to wander around Zermatt next week, please, if someone from their own experience can describe in detail the most scenic and if possible shortest path to that village. Also asking for advice on excursions around Matterhorn (I lack much experience for climbing it), what is worth seeing etc. Thanks in advance for answers.

I'm also interested if anyone knows how the ascent to Riffelhorn is (that's the peak in direct proximity to Riffelsee). From the top a splendid view opens on the Matterhorn ridge, according to the data I got, but no path leads to it that would be suitable also for families. I'm mainly interested in the technical side of the path, from where it is best to start the ascent....

Hello,

I'm interested if there will be any guided trip to the Swiss daddy - Matterhorn organized this year 2010, or if anyone is going there?

I first summited Matterhorn on 29.07.2004 at 21 years old roped with two guides.

For me Matterhorn is by far the most beautiful mountain and truly something special.

Really, I very much want to climb to the "king of mountains" again this year and if someone is willing to take me along I'm ready to cover all costs of transport and lodging ( + reward, as much as I can ).

Now it's already 6 years since then, diligently building fitness and experience on Austrian three-thousanders, Mont Blanc, winter hikes to Triglav and Slovenian two-thousanders.

Shall we go to MATTERHORN this year too?

best regards to all,
Uroš ( 070 841 816 )
