Morning folks. Well, here's the thing. One question I have, next year I have Matterhorn in the "pack". Route from Zermatt different, this Liongrat a bit more demanding. Would need as much info as possible, especially welcome info from people who were up there to make a realistic perspective. I'm also interested whether I could maybe join some team or PD, alpinists...whatever; who go up. Worries me mainly that they won't take me cause I'm still underage Any ideas/information/anything? Best

"KLAN", first watch the film in the post above. Find GV, to make a plan what all you must do till next season, then maybe you'll go on the tour. Too young yet, that you might not return from the mountain!!

These days I'm posting a bit more because I have to rest, so here I'll share my view of my "failed ascent" years ago. Such summits have never attracted me much, mainly because of the crowds and objective dangers that crowds bring. Least appealing to me is sleeping in huts, which I've always avoided if possible. Like on Mont Blanc, where I climbed first time due to uncertain weather forecast (to fill two days) when we were rock climbing in Chamonix, second time on someone's wish, same on Matterhorn. As I mentioned somewhere, we bivied well below the hut left on grassy clearing, off the path and views. So in the morning we entered despite darkness among the last, overtaking them all the time in their slowness. No orientation problems. A bit below bivouac the weather despite nice morning turned bad. Started snowing heavily. Despite snowing we progressed well, but everyone started descending. Snow fell about 10-15cm in short time. During short break in snowing we watched the whole chaos unfolding before our eyes. I remember I involuntarily let out a curse, and descending people immediately placed us on the Balkans. Colleague said, who sadly left this world already, what are we two smart ones pushing forward. Didn't need to tell me twice, as I was already "fed up" with the crowds and exposure to projectiles. Then started fighting down. Again past all the "roped ones". When we arrived in valley in afternoon, nice day came. Matterhorn sunlit and nicely "snow-capped". I said never again such mountain. And I stuck to it, despite some invitations. All says the last comment in Gita's attached link.

To me, turbo's clip didn't seem so bad. Two steeper spots, otherwise all looks manageable. Almost tempted me to try it ... That article from hribi.net though ... well, with guides it's often like that. Not all are like that. But again - not a tour of such difficulty that in good enough shape you couldn't do it even without.

But Goličica is one of the hardest spots in our Alps jax? Don't mess around. Matterhorn has 800 dead and twice as many seriously injured. And queue from valley to top, as Drago correctly warns. Bizarre - urine in huge daily amount supposed to be important reason that base glacier under MtEverest destroyed. Let's all go there, preferably tomorrow. It goes, video shows not bad

Last year we could read a lot about how one Slovenian also stayed there forever. And after all read, in my humble opinion it would hardly end differently than it did... no, things shouldn't be underestimated...

Maybe from Zermatt again sometime, from Cervinia (Lion Grat) definitely never again. So much pulling on fixed ropes on 90% walls and so much abseiling on the return, I don't want to repeat anymore. From Switzerland, I hope sometime with such company as we had in 2020. Lan knows that without a guide or at least the right company you hike with and that already hard things shouldn't be taken lightly. With us, we studied everything, watched the weather, were in contact with Croatian colleagues (they were there on the same date too) and successfully carried everything out. You'll have plenty of time, you're still so young, so better wait a bit. You have very hard tours here. Let Matterhorn wait some more.

And what's so scary if someone says the thing doesn't work like boo boo? I didn't say I'd go right away. But I think there's nothing wrong if someone says they'd tackle it with proper prep and organization. After all it's a 2 with few 3 spots, quite secured. Oh, and yes. Haven't been to Matterhorn yet, but in the video didn't see one spot reaching the danger of Goličica couloirs. Between secured easy climbing and exposed sandy traverses, no dilemmas what I'd choose.

The number of dead alone doesn't say much. Need to consider at least how much mountain traffic and what visitor profile.
