Majda, if by chance you haven't yet been to the beautiful peak on Smolnik, then - repeat, I think it's worth it.. Best! heinz

Today on Ajdna - from home from Jesenice: trail from Kor. Bela fully (except some sections at the base) in pure winter conditions. The rest (what does that mean) should be clear.. From junction for A. less trodden, towards summit mainly from Potoki direction, sufficiently trodden. Snow, ice.. (still today). Didn't go check climbing route (no need), via normal = reasonably accessible. People go mainly to Valvasor.. Nice day, no wind. For the mountains.

...Smolnik, Ajdna from Završnica...what a nice spring day. Fantastic on both peaks. First time this season the trail without ice, yes, Heinz, it's worth going up in nice weather. For all those who don't have much time, but want to enjoy nice views, čav Majda..

Yesterday afternoon - mostly in rain, from Koroška Bela to Ajdna. On the climbing route (though short) in wet not exactly pleasant. Descent via normal. On such occasion one can hardly imagine Igor's ascent to Triglav.. Hats off! An older guy pushed up with an umbrella.

Majdag, apparently your dog also enjoys the panoramic view just like Rexi. How lucky they are to have an owner with whom they share all the beauties of nature and rejoice in life. All the best.

Hi Tisa, why don't you have a dog? You once wrote that a dog in an apartment is cramped, suffers. But that's not true. Like my Ira, and Heinz's Rexi, and many others who don't suffer at all. They spend a lot of time outside, then rest. Same as us humans. You also like hiking in the mountains, in nature and a dog would really enjoy it with you. Just decide. True, you have a daily obligation; that worries you.., but it's all returned to you, believe me. You'll never be alone, and happy holidays, čav Majda

Hi Majda, thanks for the encouragement about the dog. You are right. All my life I've wanted a dog, but we've always had only cats at home. Cats are quite independent, though they follow you, cuddle and want petting, but a dog is something else. And if I just think how bad it hurt me and it will still hurt when my last kitty dies, I think I would bear the death of a beloved dog much harder. And I terribly fear that. I'm a person who gets too attached, not just to people, to every living being, even flowers. I wish you many more enjoyments with Ira and enjoy every moment in happiness. Also to you happy holidays. Nice regards and safe steps.

Saturday's necessary purchase of pure buckwheat flour in Podbrezje at Jeral's, I wanted to combine it with a short hop to some nearby »smaller hillock«; well, Heinz's interesting descriptions of Ajdna drew me in and the decision was made; left the car at the parking lot in Potoki, then the path immediately bites into the forest slope, which actually doesn't ease up to the very top at 1046 m; initially wide and in the lower third quite muddy and leaf-covered cart track offers an autumn slippery surface, poor marking often raises doubts for the first-timer »where now« ; higher up, from under the rocky summit three really beautiful, mighty chamois graced the idyll with graceful leaps over rocks; at the top an older hiker who apparently cares for the summit log up there kindly explained the visibility horizon; shame it was poor, especially the nearest highest Karavanke peak Stol shyly hid in clouds all the time, Triglav too was a lottery to catch without cap; the path is interesting, especially since you can go by an easier path or in the last part right under the summit grapple with cables and pegs; both are nice and interesting; no doubt it must be much nicer on Ajdna in clear weather; lp

Yesterday the foggy morning drove us a bit higher to the known archaeological site on Ajdna. The path is completely dry, only on the road there is still some compacted snow and ice. The sun and nice views charmed us. Nice greetings and all the best in 2012

And didn't the doggies bother the horses, Majda? Usually I don't dare walk too close to any cattle with Rex, 'cos it happens they charge at him. Especially cows are aggressive.

...Home again, I'm glad. No, nothing, those little horses didn't let themselves be disturbed, otherwise cows behave, they're really crazy, you can hardly escape them with a dog, even if tiny

...Beautiful autumn day turned into a nightmare. While descending from Smolnik, a German shepherd attacked Ira. He jumped on her and pressed her to the ground, with his snout trying to grab her neck. Barely, I don't know where the strength came from, I held him by the collar and pulled him down. Ira got away with a bite on the lower belly, I hope that's all. I yelled at the dog and pulled him, but nobody called him. Then he slipped out of his collar and fled, probably to the owner who was picking mushrooms somewhere, having left the dog to roam the forest freely. I know that if Ira had not been on the leash, she would have fled from fear, and the dog would have mauled her. I photographed the cars that were on the road at the Smolnik turnoff. Then we continued with difficulty toward Ajdna, I thought only fear was bothering her because she was shaking all over. Then she couldn't walk anymore and I had to carry her down almost the whole way. I took her to the small animal clinic to have her treated, now I'm going to the police. Don't think you're safe in the woods even if your dog is leashed. Some owners are completely irresponsible, then they wonder. I'll upload the pictures later
