Quick recovery and as few mental scars as possible also from my side. Hang in there Ira, time heals wounds, I also miss a bit of ear because a dog "friend" bit off part of it.

I also wish Ira a speedy recovery and as few consequences as possible.

This again shows the sense of carrying some defensive means, e.g. pepper spray or similar. Such events that I hear about or read about (and of course my own experiences) are stronger arguments for me than those that if you defend yourself you're somehow merciless to animals, almost a torturer, you must be patient and similar bla bla. Even if some spray accidentally hits the dog you're defending, no big deal. Wipe it with a tissue and in ten minutes it's OK.

Regarding the police, my experiences are negative. They usually find nothing. If they find the alleged culprit, he can say prove it was exactly his dog and unless you immediately went for a DNA sample from the wound, nothing will come of it. Just try!

...Thanks, VanSims, where do you get that spray? Regarding the dog owner, I completely agree. Surely he'll claim the dog was at home all the time..

Thanks to all who wish Ira the fastest recovery, you like dog friends. Sadly there are those who smile at such an accident and think one less. Pia, the dog that bit off your earlobe, wasn't a good friend. Nice day to all.. Majda

Majdag: you get defense sprays in Army Shops and stores with hunting and fishing gear (in Ljubljana e.g. Lovec in BTC and LoRiBu opp. Trade Fair). Also chemical but for defense vs animals more effective pepper (must have OC mark). For the dog aim directly in the muzzle!

...Smolnik, Ajdna last weekend...
Do you still remember when a German Shepherd attacked my little dog under Smolnik... At PP Jesenice they told me they issued a decision for 450€ to a local from Žirovnica. Whether he paid it or not, I don't know. He is the owner of one of the two parked cars that were there in front of Smolnik at the time. For all my troubles and Ira's, and the vet costs, I have to file a private lawsuit. In that case I can also get a look at the police notes. According to unofficial info, the same dog already finished off a little Yorkie. With the greatest pleasure I would sprinkle that irresponsible owner with this pepper, but I'm not the vindictive type. It pleases me that Ira is again like before, happy and lively.
Otherwise the path over Smolnik to Ajdna was nice, not icy at all.
Take care of yourselves and your little friends, greetings Majdamežikanje

@Majdag

Such strange times, you know
evil, malice wherever you go.

Less and less good returns good,
being a jerk sadly pays off more and more.

Only the beloved mountains are still like that,
from day to day the same.

May there be many,
beautiful paths hiked.
So that both you and Ira are happy about them !

...Smolnik....Only as far as there I managed to get. Nothing to Ajdna or Potoška planina. It was sinking too deep. Otherwise the path through the bushes is nicely trodden. But on the road and in Završnica they sink. There were a lot of people there today. Parked everywhere, everything was full. No wonder. It was a gorgeous day..nasmeh

...Završnica, Smolnik, Valvasor, Turška jama...Finally some real weather. The path through the forest is dry up to about 950 m, then trodden snow. Via shortcut to the ridge and then to the top of Smolnik. The summit is bare, still lots of snow around. Towards Ajdna nothing is trodden yet. I tried, but the snow was crusting too much. I continued across the road opposite Smolnik. First isolated snow holes soon disappeared into a trodden path leading to Valvasor. I deliberately returned via the road. It's impassable. High snow drifts all the way to the weekend houses below (picture). There was an off-road car parked. Still a lot of snow. When we were already on the road, we also checked out Turška jama on the way, interesting. After a long time that good feeling again, I wish it to you too, ciaonasmeh

@Majdag:

Could you please tell me how much snow is still towards Ajdna and if by next weekend (20-21. 4.) according to your estimate it could have melted enough to go to Ajdna via the climbing route.

Thanks for the reply.

P.S.: I see that it ended well with the little dog too. nasmeh

...VanSims snow is about 30cm. I think by that date it will be gone. You can get to Ajdna via the climbing route even now, easier than the normal path. A hiker told me. But he always goes from the direction of Koroška Bela. There the path is trodden, but it goes through bushes all the time. From Završnica direction it's more pleasant to ascend, at least for me. Yes, the little dog is fine, good luck nasmeh

Majda thanks for the reply although that weekend then due to bad weather forecast I didn't go to Ajdna. Then I went on Saturday (27.4.) on the way to vacation in Europe mežikanje

Of course no trace of snow anymore. I started from Koroška Bela and to the junction where the path to Ajdna branches off (thanks heinzu for the description) the path was nicely traceable. From there orientation is a bit harder, luckily red marks lead. Just below the foot (signpost) they disappear. When I got to the next signpost I didn't see the path ahead. Well actually you just go uphill and after a few minutes you reach the path then turn left to the climbing route (right easier).

The climbing route wasn't that hard for me. I went down it too. Up top the views were a bit foggy (occasional light rain on the way but nothing serious), I also checked out the archaeological site. On the way back I went straight from the saddle under the climbing route to Valvasor and there ate good wild garlic soup then went back to that junction and back to the car in Koroška Bela.

...VanSims thanks for the reply. That little via ferrata isn't hard, since we two with the dog get up without problem. Of course, if you're not afraid of rocks. Then it's a different storynasmeh

There was quite a debate a few pages back about whether this trail is suitable for a dog.

My assessment: It would be, if it weren't for that steep section at the beginning right after the first handrails, where the trail ends and the rock begins. The trail goes steeply upwards here. Later on, the handrails are mostly just for protection from the depth and not so much for progressing.
