Avalanche equipment

The problem of this topic is the following:

On the forum "heroes" appear who would immediately start on 2000ers and the others who would and will walk easy paths in winter. And you belong to that second group which is very deathly scared because of the last winter which had a really black toll among hikers.

Even at 1600 meters an avalanche can release, it all depends on the terrain (slope, sun-exposed side,...)

Best in my opinion is that you tell where you plan to go in winter, which goals you have checked, look a bit at forum trip descriptions and additionally ask on forum if your goal is potentially dangerous.

Some Blegoš, Velika planina will be completely suitable destinations for enjoying winter idyll without any special danger.

Wait don't mess around. You don't bother to search how and what in winter conditions. We should search where you'll wander.

Nicely in bullet points write here, where you'll go. big grin

Anyway first rule: in winter don't go where you haven't been yet in dry conditions.

if this is sausages for you then it's obvious you have no idea what it's about hereangry. all of us are trying to help with advice on choosing goal, suitable equipment etc. everyone would like to go to mountains in winter, half of them don't realize at all what they're getting into, the other half just has luck. but in winter luck can turn its back very quickly even to the most experienced and "tuned" mountaineer. for start the list (there are more and I don't know exactly which one you mean) is completely ok, I advise you not to go alone. 1. because others can teach you a lot and 2. because it's recommended to go in pairs in winter... why? I think you'll know how to answer this question.

@mountain lover

You just can't get out of your skin. Today you write:

"I expected more serious answers on this forum, set up a topic, question that relates exclusively to mountains but I get some sausages out of the answers, if I set the question wrong you would ask me again and I would try to set the question again."

Not long ago you yourself write in this style:

"I really recommend you go to mountains at most three. On Sunday I met two groups of hikers there were 10/group. Slow, chatty, no fitness, sorry for the expression one more crap dragged behind, I overtook them in a moment because I have VERY good fitness, even if I go 15 km from the car it's a joke for me. I dashed ahead like a Ferrari they stayed behind like Fičko."

I think we have to be friendly when writing descriptions so we can count on friendliness in return.
Sometimes you are the Ferrari, as you see, today someone else is the Ferrari.

Nice greetings from under the beautiful Golts, Janez.

A lot of criticism and harsh words and scolding and nonsense - lots of pomposity and ideas how to humiliate a person - I'm writing first and last time in this sense - if you have no idea to write friendly and disagree with something THEN DON'T WRITE AND STOP POLLUTING THE FORUM WITH YOUR STUPIDITIES!!!(applies to all concerned - they'll find themselves)

Winter is dangerous and as said don't go if you haven't been there in dry conditions - and don't go without ice axe and crampons without knowing anything about this and that... You can go to a winter mountain movement course mid-December under Vršič lasting two days - organized by Matica... Good luck!

@JTrogar

Please, I wrote only one such word, some do it constantly, every day.
You're like children.

And for you children it's not enough ˝sorry for the expression˝ I wrote clearly and you still keep digging up my old replies, for what purpose, so the topic ends up in a fight.

Our purpose is not to argue, but to help each other with advice, some behave childishly, don't respect beginners in this sport, act like you know everything and that me and similar should just hide...we have no right to ask, but if we write some nonsense sometimes you treat us like criminals, typically not, i.e. if we write some illogical thing multiple times you take us for criminals.

Let's end these childish quarrels once and for all. Seriously!!! Of course me too

Well this full moon is the strongest this year on this forum! You've never behaved like this before! Wherever I look only arguing! Most condition reports end in some quarrel! Ljubitelj gora! Let it be clear once and for all!!!!!!!!!!
First rule is:
- visit mountains where you've been in dry conditions!
- in winter take at least crampons or chains! (even lower mountains can be icy and dangerous! Hypothermia just above 1000m and fatalities! [Walking on road>) So you can't get 100% path data on this portal.
-Adapt to your feelings!
- even forum description today is not the same as tomorrow!
-check weather before departure and on the way it will tell you most!
-experienced ones will give you most!
- don't push head through wall! You can always turn back! If stubborn then not for mountains!
-If you're not calculating and can't assess conditions not for mountains!
(what is written with if doesn't concern anyone personally but all who read this post!)

Ljubitelj gora, I warmly recommend participation in this course: "Winter mountaineering course for easy and demanding snow tours" (PD Matica). Under professional guidance you'll learn everything you're interested in in two days and one evening.

For spite mrk pogled another view: some peaks are easier to reach in snow than dry. For example, Plešivec above Stari Utor (near Trentski Pelc), is easier accessible due to dense bushes when covered by snow. But easier access in snow doesn't mean less demanding in snow zavijanje z očmi Quite the opposite jezen Now understand zmeden if you can. Those in mountains weekdays and holidays will understand . . . . . mežikanje

my big wish is to go somewhere, but I don't dare alone (have three kids), waiting for uncle to take pity and make time for me. If not, I've already signed up for basic winter hiking course in Kamnik, slowly since I have time, I'll know everything, and experience and years also bring something good...
By what measures to buy ice axe by weight, by length (I mean alpine ice axe)??
Thanks

I recommend a longer one, easier to walk with it, otherwise you have to lean sideways.

I suggest you wait with buying the equipment until the course, there you can borrow everything for the practical tour. You'll also learn what and how to buy.
Generally, the hiking ice axe is bought by the rule that when you hold the ice axe by the head and stretch your arm, the tip must touch the armpit.

Hello @timgalema
If you're at the Kamnik hut, drive there to Rak. The road is mostly normally drivable. Park there and head towards Velika Planina. Go a day or two after snowfall, so you'll already have a track. I think there shouldn't be problems if you just hike in the mountains. And you don't need ice axe or crampons. Good lucknasmeh
