Backpack

Mountain Hardware has good backpacks and Black Diamond, but the price... is another thing.
I only know that I like a backpack without side pockets or even meshes; it must have two loops for ice axes, loops for poles and other gear. The helmet must fit inside without problems (not hanging and rattling the whole way)jezen and in summer as little as possible hanging out of it (rattling, risk of catching...), besides it must be big enough also for all gear... 40L is perfect. I was deciding on buying a mountaineering backpack for quite some time...
In Promontana they don't even nearly have all BD and MH models.mrk pogled

The whole science about backpacks!? I have quite a few, I think three from Berghaus from 35 to 65+10l, one from Salewa, two from Karrimor and some old ones. The old Karrimor fits my back best and even though it's all worn out it suits me best, be it for half a day, one day or two days, everything I need I can put in it and on it.

Mammut Extreme 45, already second in a row. Top in all respects. Extremely satisfied.velik nasmeh
And another small VauDe, for "short" hikes. Also good. And another Berghaus 60+10, for longer stuff abroad. Old but usable. Once a model fits your back, no point changing it! Until it "dies" of course.......jezen

I'm for Deuter. They haven't disappointed me yet. From expedition, hiking, alpine, cycling. I haven't tried the protective ones yet.

I'm buying too.
I'd like a backpack where I could fit also stuff for 2-3 day hikes, though maybe only 1 or 2 such per year.
And I don't plan to change 6x in between, so not overdo clothing quantity...

Don't know what minimal volume I should look at?

Like for ex Berghaus 35+8 - 79.99€

And Deuter 59.55€

Similar to this but 30+5. Probably too small, right?

For Deuter backpacks SL means women's model, or rather shorter back length.
Deuter has solid capacity (different brands interpret liters differently), so it's not much smaller than that Berghaus as you'd think.

So would that capacity be OK for (rare) 2-3 day trips?

It depends on what trips. Summer ok, winter probably a bit small. I would recommend compression bags that reduce volume a lot.

Besides, it depends on how much water and food you carry. If on a trip where there's a hut every 2 hours, it's different than every 8 hours.
I say: If more than you need it's better than less and you need.
I'd rather suggest a 40l backpack.

Yes, only summer.

This Berghaus is 35+8...
But something a bit bigger would be better, yes...

Ok, will check just before my season velik nasmeh
Backpacks anyway not discounted...

Otherwise here you have quite a big offer, and some discounted.

Sometimes it's good to follow a bit, as some discounts also outside seasonal.

Maybe this one...

But I don't know how the back system is here.

Hm, I can't tell you that either, because I haven't had the chance to try it. But on their website I couldn't find any backpacks anywhere... Best to go to the store and try it on...

You know, I'm leaning towards getting that Deuter anyway. It'll serve me great for day hikes, for one or two multi-day tours (surely no more), and I'll saddle up an old 50l Kilimanjaro that I pulled from some corner.

Maybe it doesn't have optimal back system, pockets and materials, but for my tours it'll be more than enough.

My experience with the backpack is the following. I went on an 800 km long hike to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Despite a good backpack and extremely reduced weight, after a few days, when I walked 20, 30 km and more every day, many things hurt (I wasn't the only one). Then we pilgrims came up with a new view on the backpack. The backpack is part of my body that admires the world from my back side. I also gave it a name: Peter! Soon it was no longer my/our burden, but became my/our friend who accompanies me today wherever I go! (not to mention conversations with Peter, how much we debated on lonely paths...). For me personally a really interesting experience!!!

aaa... Santiago, interesting experience, I believe.
I would try it myself sometime.

I'll try to take your philosophy into account. It makes sense. If you're receptive to such things of course.

Don't get me wrong... I myself transcended the rational scene and various spiritual awakenings that supposedly many experience on this path, I wasn't part of them. But I still enjoyed the path unceasingly, partied a lot, met tons of interesting people from all over the world and generally had a super time!!!

There wouldn't be anything wrong, even if you experienced spiritual awakenings nasmeh

How long did you walk?

...I'm not at that stage yet...I'm fine as I am...yeah I walked from 14 October to 9 November, I think that's 26 days. with that, it was really tough in Pamplona and I was there 3 days... I booked the return flight on the way, so I could allow myself time freedom!!! awesome!!!

So that's a good 30 km per day.
Yeah, if there's a month of time it'd tempt me.
Although other things tempt me more nasmeh

We'll see.
