I was also a bit disappointed, I expected a bit more adrenaline bits. Otherwise hats off to Messner. One of the greatest, if not the greatest and best alpinist.

These films seem more like cartoons to me, no mountain reality in them, half shot in studios. Wool sweater OK, but thin windbreaker above 8000m, and more about gear that Messners surely had much better then. Helmets were used then too. Anyway completely average thing.

This film didn't convince me much either - same as Nordwand. The only film that's really super for me is Touching the Void (Dotik praznine).

I read the book Touching the Void, didn't know there was a film too.

The film is top-notch; usually books are better than films for me, but here I'd say it's the other way around. If you liked the book, watching the film is a must!

Hello!
Let me also add, about the film Nanga Parbat. The film was shot with advice and tips from Messner himself. Of course it's not realistic, it's a documentary that wants to show the background of his brother's tragic event. It's a story about responsibility and facing the guilt of Reinhold and the other two comrades who consciously didn't want to help!!!!!. For me excellent script and film. Mountaineers can think a bit!

If we view the film as a portrayal of the Messner family's tragedy and psychological analysis of two mountaineers' behavior in a crisis and extreme conditions, then it's acceptable.
The depiction of the mountain events has no connection to real conditions.
Whoever had the chance to visit the Himalayas, experience its full beauty and taste its wrath, knows that the filmed mountain scenes don't even remotely show the reality of this mighty mountain.
Until you meet those mountains you don't grasp their scale and height, mountains that touch the sky. We could at least somewhat "taste" Nanga Parbat watching Tomaž's rescue footage.
For me the film was a psychological drama of two mountaineers where one couldn't make the key decision that would rob them of the summit and glory but save the other's life. Something for all of us to consider, what kind of mountaineers we are!

I'm really enthusiastic about the film. I wasn't so much interested in the technical side as in the message. The film was probably not made to win technical awards.
But very glad National TV remembered mountaineers and decided on mountaineering film week on TV. I think it would be nice if every week one day were reserved for a mountain doc or film.

Just on national TV we had Mountains and People shows prepared and hosted by Marjeta. Sadly politics interfered, dismissed Marjeta and canceled the shows.
They repeat all "fluff", never these. That's how it is.

Germans made a good film, we have such nice mountains, lakes, landscapes, but can't put together one good film, not speaking how nice Lake Bled is, various waterfalls, Bovec end phenomenal landscape various passes, SAD, no SLO film not talking about 1-2 films but more, I liked that funny film from Velika Planina. Ah forget it all Switch to Kanal and Naked Gun 2, switch to Pop TV Jurassic Park 2 they're kidding we watched that 15 years ago. Today tech is at its peak, what wasn't 20 years ago they still made an exceptionally good film I'd watch today with great pleasure every day, e.g. Kekec. OK sorry for the comment but really sad.

joking aside, I think we have quite a few good documentaries about our mountains, we just need to show them more often.
