The best domestic mountaineering film is definitely Bratovščina Sinjega galeba Even though Sreča na vrvici also "deeply" hit me

And today Eiger is on...... pathetically said, the mountain of my life. Never fulfilled dream. I read and processed everything available, prepared for that ascent, not at all on the north face, but on the classic ridge and then illness came instead of departure. It must have been meant to be, everything is for some good.

yeah.. this one that's currently playing is tough. Eiger Nordwand (actually too tough, too hard) I've already watched it online, but it shakes you every time..

film's message- simple, there must be a limit somewhere. Down there Toni still knew it, later he ignored it due to various factors (forcefully). Actually not even his own fault.., but what does it help when it's too late?..

Yes, if anywhere, here I shed many a tear . Completely different film from the one about Nanga Parbat---more adrenaline inserts, emotions, in short action... Definitely one of the top films I've ever seen . Here you really start wondering how you would react in a similar situation, and about responsibility in the mountains, and much more. Here on the link below, some info about the Eiger wall itself. http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/34785/

Yes this is a film that reaches the heart, that doesn't let you sleep...already while reading the book shivers ran through me at the tragedy, the film is even more vivid three years ago we were in the camp under Eiger and at night we watched people in bivouacs on the wall,to relive the climbers' courage from afar..this year I'll be in those parts again

Good film about conquering mountains and especially about the psychology of mountaineering. Touching the Void is also a quality documentary, good for reflection during and after watching the film.

For me some of the best recordings of ascents (from a technical viewpoint) are from "tvmountain", you can find them on Youtube too. This ascent on Grandes Jorasses is excellent: http://youtu.be/yEErypyB-x0 or this one http://youtu.be/dLs3gYBl2Vg and others. Among the suggested videos on the right you'll find more. Highly recommended!!!

I think hats off to Ueli and Dani. But I still don't understand the point of speed conquering of summits. At least I don't.

I would just ask which mountain (if it's real at all) is the logo of Paramount Pictures production house, to me it looks like Mt. Godwin Austen, but I'm not quite sure?

Artesonraju The beautiful mountain is said to be the inspiration behind the Paramount Pictures logo.

Google says it doesn't exist. "The mountain depicted on the Paramount Pictures logo isn't real. Legend has it that the mountain is based on a doodle made by W. W. Hodkinson during a meeting with Adolph Zukor. It is said to be based on the memories of his childhood in Utah. Some claim that Utah's Ben Lomond is the mountain Hodkinson doodled, and that Peru's Artesonraju is the mountain in the live-action logo."

Most often Artesonraju is mentioned, which from the north is most similar to this picture! Some also mention Huantsan!

Otherwise, on the topic of Eiger, read the book THE WHITE SPIDER, written by the famous Austrian alpinist Heinrich Harrer (also known as the author of the world-famous book Seven Years in Tibet). It describes all the ascents on this mighty mountain and of course all the "tragedies", as the author calls them.

Katty, it describes ascents and tragedies in the north face up to 1959. Some chapters were added a bit later. Seven Years in Tibet is autobiographical. Most probably know why he fled there. Otherwise, The White Spider is an excellent book and Harrer was an excellent alpinist, but unfortunately only that.
