A bird unknown to me by the water - the picture is really bad because I hurried to zoom it.

That's how the moorhen moves near water. It's as plump as it looks in the picture. That whiteness under the throat isn't visible - for exact identification a better picture would really be needed.

I don't know if it was quite big - bigger than a pigeon?

I'm sure it can't be a moorhen. Maybe an ornithologist will respond .

This year's scaup on migration. Can you reveal where you took the picture of it?

This one is already domestic. But who knows what her name is?

Now I see that women are more involved with birds than men. Thanks ločanka.

Two flocks of cranes spotted at 12:25 flying over the lower Vipava Valley in westerly direction. The first definitely had more than 200, the second a couple minutes behind about 100; they were flying very high. Haven't noticed them this late-mid December so far

Today around 16h a flyover of a large flock of approx 200 cranes; they flew roughly over the Vipava river downstream, west direction. In the pictures they are heavily zoomed because they were flying high. After them in about 3/4h a slightly smaller flock followed, I didn't photograph as it was very dark already, but those flew fairly low. I haven't noticed them this late, obviously it is cooling down slowly and it's about time.

On Tuesday on Menina Planina I stumbled upon a huge flock of small birds. Experts probably know which species. They moved from one end of the forest to the other and a bit around, it was a joy to watch and listen to them.

@rinča, most likely chaffinches (Fringilla coelebs).

I'm curious what caused all year-round fed birds to disappear with first frost (some time ago). Now only some dove or single sparrow comes, rest gone. Until frost blue tits, great tits, nuthatch, chaffinches, even treecreepers to feeders... Where are they?

Same happening here. No birds anywhere last days. Not even woodpeckers that came daily to walnut. Saw two tits that flew in and immediately away.
