Water pipits are quite common, usually need larger grassy patches in high mountains (above tree line), where they nest. Often sing their characteristic song in the air, so harder to see than hear. But need to watch not to confuse it in lower elevations with tree pipit. The latter often stays on forest clearings and pastures, below tree line. This year I saw some on Golica ridge (below at the hut both mentioned species were present), and at Kamniško sedlo, Velika planina, below Ledinski vrh, Krvavec-Kalski greben, Korošica, Kriški podi... link to water pipit song http://www.xeno-canto.org/136182

@Ornitolog thanks again for the answers. The water pipit from my picture is at home under Tosec. I observed it when I was sitting on that bench under Tosec. Its call was just like on the recording and it was really persistent

Thanks to both. Ornitolog, I'm not sure if I really know the tree pipit or its relative the water pipit. I regularly meet it on the ridge through Suha saddle to Mala Golica and towards Golica. Calling it rises vertically into the air, then glides with spread wings to the top of a rock, tree or bush. Until now I thought it was the tree pipit. Also saw it on top of Golica. Which one is more certain? Thanks.

Both species have a similar display flight, take off and land on exposed places, but the song is different. Attaching a recording of the tree pipit for comparison. On top of Golica it's definitely water pipit, tree pipit I heard on Planina Pusti Rovt. In summer time they are also easily distinguished by looks. Water pipit has no spots on breast, tree pipit is quite spotted/striped. http://www.xeno-canto.org/326215

One of the more interesting mountain birds is definitely the wallcreeper, master of camouflage. I photographed this one in June on Kalški greben. Did anyone manage to see it this year? If yes, where/how many/when?

We saw them last year around this time on Mišeljski greben. Couldn't get close to them, they flew off, circled and came back another way. Probably camouflaging to protect the young.

Since it's just talk about the wallcreeper, I never know with it what is more correct. To call it a bird or a hen? It belongs namely to the family of gallinaceous fowl. Its habitat is on the ground, also flights it usually makes shorter.

It's not exactly about feeding birds, as in the title, but I see all sorts of posts on birds are gathered here, so attaching a photo here and asking if anyone knows which bird this is? Photographed two days ago between Dovška Rožca pasture and Dovška Baba summit?

Today high above my head the boss of all our birds circled several times. Since this doesn't happen very often, I'll show him to you too

@IgorZlodej, in the picture I have the Golden Eagle. Why do you think it would be White-headed hawk?
