Another problematic one.

New bivouac on Kanin

Igor Zlodej: Last year an offer arrived for the possibility of placing a bivouac somewhere in the Bovec mountains, the condition was that it is outside the TNP area.

I was invited to collaborate in selecting the most suitable location. But since I didn't want, let alone wish to decide alone on such an important matter, I informed the president of GRS Bovec Tinet Cudr about the intention. The director of Bovec LTO Janko Humar, who was the contact person, invited the president of PD Bovec Robert Rot to the meeting that took place at the mayor of Bovec municipality Valter Mlekuž.

Considering the length of hiking trails in the Kanin and Rombon mountain ranges and the actual needs for a bivouac also from the perspective of shelter on long and strenuous tours, and in case of rescue interventions, two very suitable locations were proposed.
The first were the ruins of the old Kanin hut at 1814 meters altitude, minimal arrangement interventions would be needed, there is water nearby, the location has an excellent view from the highest Julian Alps peaks all the way to the sea. It is on the Gozdec - High Kanin path with the possibility of visiting Laška Planja, Veliki Babanski Skedanj, High Resian Path and ultimately it is on the way to the closed Dom Petra Skalarja.
The second proposed location was the "plateau" right next to the Prevala - Rombon path below the summit of Pri Banderi mountain (2054 m), which cavers use for camping when exploring Čehi II cave. Given the great distances on hiking trails Kluže - Rombon - Zavrzelno or Rombon - Prevala - upper cable car station, the bivouac location would be more than suitable, especially considering that the cave under Ribežn is no longer usable for bivouacking for a long time.

Unfortunately, as is customary here, the third proposal prevailed with the selection of the location in the immediate vicinity of Dom Petra Skalarja Za Konjcem. That the location for building the new Kanin hut was a completely wrong choice long ago, the little birds were chirping back then of course, but that's how it was then. The older ones also know how to tell why it was so and who is most responsible for it.
After the construction of the Kanin cable cars, which apparently will soon have better times again, this location is practically in a dead end. The hut is outside all established paths, practically isolated there behind Konjec and has nothing else but really nice views. Even the shortest access from the upper gondola station is anything but easy, in winter it's impossible on the marked path and winter passages are used for access, which of course are known only to a few winter visitors. Of course, we can completely ignore the fact that the described hut location is also no starting point for say some ski touring, except via Kanin western slopes, which due to numerous screes are not entirely carefree.
To conclude: the bivouac location was not a suitable choice according to Bovec mountain rescuers, but nevertheless we participated in concreting the foundation and helicopter transports, just like PD Bovec members and cavers.

On July 1, 2016, after many vicissitudes, the heavily stripped bivouac skeleton was finally brought by SV helicopter behind Konjec.
Unfortunately, after a month the construction is not completed and the bivouac locked stands idle next to the closed Dom Petra Skalarja behind Konjec, the wind joyfully scatters insulation material, wood and other remains around.

It is sad that in the existing and already previously poorly visited building all this time no possibility was found for placing a bivouac.
Even sadder is the view of such an exposed half-finished building that is already decaying now and thus only negatively affects the environment.

On whose initiative was the 3rd proposal given, who was the godfather for this that this initiative was also selected?
Who is responsible that the works don't finish?

Otherwise really sad what is happening...

since we're already at bivouacs, does anyone maybe know when a new one will be placed at Jezerih? will there be one at all?

Inform the media so that journalists look into it a bit. They show the wider Slovenia what is happening, let the culprits for the created situation be sought, who of course won't answer anything as is usual with us. Sad but true.

Kanin is accessible to everyone for a day due to the cable car system, the other are Rombon slopes, where few people go.
In my opinion, placing a new bivouac would only make sense in upper Bali-Studor, where it would be useful for both hikers and alpinists. Loška stena is distant with short descent, likewise proximity of B.G. Pelci, Skutnik, Jelenk, Šmihelovec, connecting paths over Zapodno to Trenta or towards Jalovec Čez Brežiče to Koritnica. Given TNP rules, placing it there would be just a utopiazavijanje z očmi

@Viharnik, it's about Kanin. And Igor Zlodej justified why the location there is not good and where it would be better. Don't bring up Bala and Loška stena now, which have nothing to do with Kanin.

On GL I read that there's a new bivouac on Kanin and the location is unfortunate but convenient because it's outside TNP.

More shocking was the info that they plan another on Rombon! Is it true that another new bivouac will be placed somewhere on wild Rombon?? eek

In Bovec nothing is known about this eek

Maybe it will be generally known only when helicopters are already buzzing and architects have meanwhile built a new monument. At the administrative unit or municipality they probably know...eek

Otherwise bivouacs in Bovec area are obviously very needed, otherwise PZS wouldn't give consents?

Is the one on Kanin already renovated and in use? Why wasn't it placed lower according to original proposals - as written on GL?

To tell the truth I don't see what's particularly bad about it. Whether anything comes of it, I don't know.

Such locations where bivouac would stand directly at pl.hut, you don't see anywhere even abroadzmedeneek
There's still time to move the bivouac elsewhere to a more useful location, for rescuers, winter visitors, junction of path connections, with water nearby and safe from avalancheszadrega.

Consider that Skalar has no winter room. Such cases where a permanently open object stands next to a staffed hut, there are quite a few in Slovenia and abroad.

On Rombon, just like on the Lakes, you can't set up a bivouac because it's in TNP, whoever read the article knows that, the others....

Of course there are bivouacs or winter rooms next to huts, I've slept in many of them multiple times, for example Defreggerhaus, Studelhütte, Prehodavci, Dolič before the snow avalanche, Staničeva, ....

As far as I know, the Kanin one will be completed when the gondola cable car is operating, helicopters are more needed elsewhere now.

Those are winter rooms of the respective alpine huts, which they separate from the building in case of fire, an independent bivouac is something completely different. They only put them in remote mountain areas where alpine huts are quite distant. Well, at least a nice view on Kanin from the new bivouacbig

Riddle: how many keys will this bivouac have?
1,2 or 3? Prize: free sleep under the shelter of Peter Skalar's hut.
