This whole thing with placing/relocating bivouacs lately is no longer normal. Another problematic one. http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/128137/#20160804075259 New bivouac on Kanin Igor Zlodej: Last year an offer arrived for the possibility of placing a bivouac somewhere in the Bovec mountains, the condition was that it is outside the TNP area. I was invited to collaborate in selecting the most suitable location. But since I didn't want, let alone wish to decide alone on such an important matter, I informed the president of GRS Bovec Tinet Cudr about the intention. The director of Bovec LTO Janko Humar, who was the contact person, invited the president of PD Bovec Robert Rot to the meeting that took place at the mayor of Bovec municipality Valter Mlekuž. Considering the length of hiking trails in the Kanin and Rombon mountain ranges and the actual needs for a bivouac also from the perspective of shelter on long and strenuous tours, and in case of rescue interventions, two very suitable locations were proposed. The first were the ruins of the old Kanin hut at 1814 meters altitude, minimal arrangement interventions would be needed, there is water nearby, the location has an excellent view from the highest Julian Alps peaks all the way to the sea. It is on the Gozdec - High Kanin path with the possibility of visiting Laška Planja, Veliki Babanski Skedanj, High Resian Path and ultimately it is on the way to the closed Dom Petra Skalarja. The second proposed location was the "plateau" right next to the Prevala - Rombon path below the summit of Pri Banderi mountain (2054 m), which cavers use for camping when exploring Čehi II cave. Given the great distances on hiking trails Kluže - Rombon - Zavrzelno or Rombon - Prevala - upper cable car station, the bivouac location would be more than suitable, especially considering that the cave under Ribežn is no longer usable for bivouacking for a long time. Unfortunately, as is customary here, the third proposal prevailed with the selection of the location in the immediate vicinity of Dom Petra Skalarja Za Konjcem. That the location for building the new Kanin hut was a completely wrong choice long ago, the little birds were chirping back then of course, but that's how it was then. The older ones also know how to tell why it was so and who is most responsible for it. After the construction of the Kanin cable cars, which apparently will soon have better times again, this location is practically in a dead end. The hut is outside all established paths, practically isolated there behind Konjec and has nothing else but really nice views. Even the shortest access from the upper gondola station is anything but easy, in winter it's impossible on the marked path and winter passages are used for access, which of course are known only to a few winter visitors. Of course, we can completely ignore the fact that the described hut location is also no starting point for say some ski touring, except via Kanin western slopes, which due to numerous screes are not entirely carefree. To conclude: the bivouac location was not a suitable choice according to Bovec mountain rescuers, but nevertheless we participated in concreting the foundation and helicopter transports, just like PD Bovec members and cavers. On July 1, 2016, after many vicissitudes, the heavily stripped bivouac skeleton was finally brought by SV helicopter behind Konjec. Unfortunately, after a month the construction is not completed and the bivouac locked stands idle next to the closed Dom Petra Skalarja behind Konjec, the wind joyfully scatters insulation material, wood and other remains around.
