Planning to visit Brana, but only if no winter gear needed, what are the conditions now, any snow?

Whoever asks in the same sentence if winter gear is needed and if there's still snow, better not go to the high mountains till July.

@SamoK: after a long time posting (dunno why), you "sharpened" it well to all who ask...

So that no one asks anything here and gets advice. j. gave the proper answer that should suffice.

I wonder if an ice axe and crampons are needed for Brana?

Afrofeet, as redbull wrote to you. There's still snow and full winter gear is needed.

> j. gave an appropriate answer that should suffice. Yes, dprapr, really. Let the asker figure out from the webcam footage if he'll slip behind the corner on the ridge on icy rocks or a small patch of hard snow. Really excellent advice!

SamoK, don't you really see the snow in the picture from Brana?

Crossing that snowfield is not harmless. Quite a few have been carried away there already. I turned back there once this year. Good luck.

j. - the problem is not whether the snow is visible or not. The problem is if someone relies on the camera picture. In reality, the even bigger problem is that someone might venture into the mountains poorly equipped after getting some answers on the forum. I stick to my original statement: anyone asking now whether they need winter gear or not should not go to the high mountains until real summer.

"The problem is if someone relies on the camera picture." Then what is that camera for? To see who is stumbling up there or because of the quite visible conditions. Someone who is far away and doesn't go to the mountains every weekend asks about conditions, because they probably have no idea about the conditions in that area and that there is a camera there. And since we don't know who is asking, at least give a polite answer. Conditions vary from year to year. It has been completely dry at this time before. I agree that the question would be different if posted in mid-winter. As for me, the picture of current conditions is the most indicative, more than any advice or description of conditions.

Anyone who currently finds it hard to carry winter gear on sun-exposed approaches above 2000 meters should rather stay home for a few more weeks. For their own good, and especially for the good of those who might have unnecessary work with them.
