Brana

In the morning the weather was supposed to hold, and it did. So Tinky and I arranged yesterday to head to Brana. At Kamniško sedlo in the morning there was quite a crowd, and it was more fun. The path to the top is dry except for a small snow patch before the ridge, which is bypassed.

On Friday I decided for Brana based on the forecast for afternoon showers. It exactly matched the timing as I predicted when I was at the car at half past three, raindrops. The fog-clouds dragging over the peaks spiced it up—no views but mystical. Well, a bit of Rinke and Turska gora showed. Excellent. On the summit, cherry on top: met forum colleagues Dragota and Vinkota who reached the top via Kaptanski greben nasmeh

Ascent from Kamniška Bistrica to Brana on a sultry day. Trail without problems. Best is a stop at the hut on Kamniško sedlo, where friendly staff caters to hikers' wishes. The hut is anyway one of the best equipped and maintained...

Evening Brana 12.8.16
Started at 18.45 from K. Bistrica, as work dragged on. Towards the summit crazy colors. It's not always like that, but today this princess in that part was fog-free unlike the others.

No more snow? On Thursday around noon, when I was driving on the highway towards Gorenjska, Kamniško sedlo, Brana and Planjava were white. mrk pogled

Probably just a few hours after you saw it, it was no longer white. It's August and snow lasts only a few hours after falling at this time.

A few weeks ago we were puzzled by different opinions about the path from Repov kot towards Pastirji. Some claimed there is no path, others advocated that there is. So I decided to go and photograph it a bit. Why choose it, unless going to Planjava, is another question, but probably because it's solitary and quiet and winds through wonderful nooks in switchbacks.

I set off on foot from Bistrica, which I later regretted, as two ticks really latched onto me proverbially. In Klin I branch off the path to Kamniško sedlo and take it to Repov kot. The path in the right bend, according to Mihelič it would be in the right place nasmeh, after about half an hour I leave it and head left on the trail. For a while it winds through the forest, which thins gradually, and reaches the first short fixed cable (we'll meet it two more times on the path). Then it ascends in switchbacks towards the gully Za Vrati, crosses it, then turns across a small ravine and starts slowly descending along Macesnovec towards Pastirji.

At the boulders I head towards Kamniško sedlo and then to Brana, from where I take it back to the valley. The logbook or what's left of it I handed in at Kamniško sedlo. If there's a new one in place, someone else will check. mežikanje

Palček plezalček....Your path tempted me to Planjava today, but I was too early and since I don't know the path I didn't dare ....logbook on Brana was already new on 13.9., I signed after 64th entry. Very praiseworthy, they take good care of hikers' records.
Tinky...from afar I watched your ascent just below Brana summit....from the time on the photo I know mežikanje

Mukica, from the start of the path through Repov kot there is another variant/branch that goes through the forest towards Macesnovec. Don't turn onto that path if you want to Planjava.
Attaching a photo where the path through Repov kot turns right, but I went left. Follow the trail for quite a while. At the bend where I went left to Pastirji, you go right (no photo; not well visible, scree) towards the gully Za Vrati and further along Planjava ledges to Planjava. Have fun when you choose this variant. nasmeh

Hi,

has anyone been up there in the last few days and can tell what the conditions are like?

Thanks for the reply and best regards! nasmeh

Conditions 7.10; on the scree above Okrešelj there is dry wind-blown snow up to ankles along the path, higher on the ridge there is less, on the summit flank very little. It was a bit frozen in places, so for descent on trickier spots I used microspikes.

After Saturday's 12h Golte we headed in warm weather to Kamniško sedlo and to Brana. The path is dry, but only to the middle. A substantial amount of snow is coming, if they haven't plunged into the dark again.

I also heard that the snow patch is supposed to be in that chimney below the summit and that an ice axe might be needed, as far as I know that path I'd say it's possible.
