Winter Brana is one of our most dangerous mountains. This danger is represented by wind slabs above the junction to Okrešelj, where twenty years ago it also carried mountain rescuer Janez Plevel to his death during a rescue operation for an injured person.
Wind slab is the only form of snow where ice axe and crampons are powerless.

Only now have good conditions for winter ascents started. Brana has also been ski descended in various variants these days. Base is good and currently tracked. There's a huge amount of snow, so the ascent is accordingly wintery and exit left of the cross. Best even straight up the gully. To Priv Planjavi without issues. At Wisiak huge snow and need to drop a bit then just up. Great caution also due to flying pebbles. Reached summit via winter route, returned via summer. Summit is several meters higher.

At 1903 m a.s.l., at the flag which marks Kamniško sedlo. To the hut not even 10 minutes.

Early start from Jermanca to Brana, conditions above Kamniško sedlo under Brana: wading through snow, higher windblown and just right for ice axe/crampons. Three of us went up, another cca 5 followed to the top.

No, not needed, except last jump (chimney) needs to be climbed, because otherwise you can't go due to snow.
