My partner and I are planning to go to Kobariški Stol from Breginj this weekend. Of course, I'm interested in the current conditions on the path, if there's anything I need to know or can we just go full throttle? IF ANYONE HAS HIKED THIS PATH AND IS SO KIND.... THANKS.

This is how Babaski Skedenj looks from Bca, Stol is right behind it. So no need to worry about snow. Weather should be okay, but not nice if a shower and/or storm hits you there, because grassy slopes - wet, slippery - are quite steep. The car can go pretty high, the road was okay last autumn, park on the edge because locals haul wood and such quite often. The path is very "sunny", can be hot. Ticks are there!!! Annoying dangerous ones and the kind you sit on. Snakes, no need to mention. Very nice tour, after the tour see Breginj and Robidišče, our westernmost inhabited spot. BTW, if you and partner are tough, at mill-museum above Breginj nice dip in pool-stream. Oh, how good after tour http://www.hribi.net/spletna_kamera/veliki_babanski_skedenj/1464

Nice tour, nice photos - congrats. That mill isn't a mill, but renovated Petarin sawmill on Bela creek.

Today Breginj-Stol-Musc-Breginj: solitary, flowers full everywhere, eagles above us really wonderful.

Joža, your bunch of gentians is without competition. 55 gentians! Few see such a thing live. Beautiful!

There really are 55, but wife counted that many too, I don't have patience. Yeah, Stol is real paradise for alpine flower lovers, in my 10-year mountaineering "career" haven't seen anywhere near as many flowers as this spring on Stol.

For some time I was thinking to drive to these ends above Kobarid and today I decide for visit to Stol above Kobarid, start a bit above village Stanovišče, climb through bushes directly to ridge where least snow, already after a few minutes sweat drenches me, hotter and hotter but later higher better. Path to ridge dry, of course pathless, on ridge still much snow and sinks to ass sometimes "here you don't fall in either" happened 3x to me, else minimal sinking to top, back a bit more, others had snowshoes, one skis. Top pleasantly warm no wind, descend same path to start. Matajur has from Kobarid still much snow, and Stol from other side too. Polovnik already doable.

On Friday 3.5. we set off on this path towards the summit of Kobariški Stol. At the beginning we climbed for about two hours through a steep forest path, where we gained the most elevation. On this part the legs get quite tired :p Then we reached beautiful meadows and later a wide path, which we walked for about an hour. Then the last hour the path gets steeper again and finally the summit delighted us On the return, the clouds had cleared and views opened towards Krn and Polovnik ridge. Eagles circled around us for a while too. You can see hike photos on the Planinsko društvo Matica Murska Sobota website: http://www.mojalbum.com/pdmaticams/20130503-kobariski-stol/pogled-v-dolino-proti-kobaridu/20746823

Katja87, those were probably "white-headed hawks" and they are very common residents of these parts. We also spotted them on 1 May on the path from Sleme pasture towards Krn . You were good, nice photos! Best regards and safe steps .

Katja87, judging by your photos, it looks like there's no snow or just some patches. Is the path dry? Where did you park, since I'm planning to go there.

skalaš70: Yes, then those are surely the hawks, there were quite a few We were also on Krn on May 1st (from Kuhinja pasture) and saw them from afar Best regards and happy trail to you too Strucko: No snow anymore, so no winter gear needed. Path mostly dry, wetter part in the forest but no issues. We parked a bit further from the main intersection in Kobarid center, free parking. Start for Kobariški Stol is almost there. Happy hiking

I was up there on April 26, from Breginj to Muzec then along the ridge to Kobarid Stol and back to Breginj. Already then only patches of snow on the Stol, otherwise the path is snow-free. Otherwise the best variant is the one described above. Breginj-muzec-stol-breginj. Easy parking in Breginj at the church (where they have the bus..) Along the path 2 drinking water springs, both working (checked)
