Already on April 25th both were snow-free, with some snow patches on the ridge or in some gully. On the northern slopes of Brinica there were still some consolidated snow areas.

Italian websites mark the hut as Rifugio A.N.A., which leads me to conclude it's some kind of (military? Associazione Nazionale Alpini?) abbreviation and not a personal name.

Hey, thanks, that's how one learns something new.
If I understand correctly, the same applies to PZS, DOAV or OTK huts etc., only we don't push ownership into the name (Tržaška koča PZS at Dolič?, Bivak GRS at Krvavec?). So we should mention huts in quotes, (Bivak Gorizia not Bivak Gorica. Am I right?

On the Italian side of the range I don't know the paths and conditions well but if it's dry on our side I think it's also on the Italian one nasmeh

Every year we also have a hike on the last Saturday in September, this year 28.09, on three routes of the Stol massif.
From Breginj to Musc from Musc to Breški jalovec and down to Brezje village.
Second from Breginj to Plazi valley then to Nizki vrh from Nizki vrh to Breški jalovec to Brezje village.
The third is the easiest path from Breginj to Plazi valley to Brezje village; the first two demanding approx. 6 to 7h walk, the third for families approx. 3h.
Transport from Brezje to Breginj is organized.
Everyone is welcome nasmeh

See the picture of the route on the link below:
19th traditional hike Breginj – Breški Jalovec / Punta di Montemaggiore (ITA) - Brezje / Montemaggiore 28.09.2013

Here are some interesting peaks on the Stol ridge:

Klatnica - Hidden little spring of pure drinking water in a rock cleft, located just off the path to Musc.

Nizki vrh 1488m

Musc 1612m

With a not too promising weather forecast, but with bora on the coast, the decision was for Stol (Breginjski), which was long planned. If it blows then no rain and path will dry quickly. At 6am in Breginj still lightly drizzling but good wind, local says if it blows go ahead. Start towards Musc and really clears in 15 min. Towards Musc summit good wind and from Italian side starts clearing. Along ridge to Stol bora dries path quickly and more and more clear. When approaching Stol summit wind calms, sun shows and at summit real St. Martin's day without wind. Descent in nice sunny weather but when arrive in Breginj rain showermrk pogled

Hi, has anyone been to Stol above Kobarid in recent days? On Sunday we'd like to go but I'm a bit worried about the grass on the summit where it says it's slippery when wet - snow too probably. Does anyone have first-hand info?nasmeh Regards

I was there about three weeks ago: http://www.hribi.net/trenutnerazmere.asp?slo=1&gorovjeid=1&id=4414

If going from Breginj along the ridge, it can be really dangerous in snow or wet if not experienced. The ridge is narrow and exposed in places.

Or go from Učja (old border crossing SLO side), ca 3h. By car up to Planina Božca (also from Breginj direction) to ca 1300m (as long as road passable), from there good hour to summit. This path is not exposed and not dangerous.

I'm curious how much walking time from antennas to bivouac under muzec (I've only been to antennas) and then from bivouac to end towards IT when no snow.
Is the bivouac visible from path or need to search for itnasmeh?
Thanks.

From Stol to bivouac about 2 hours. Whole ridge is like 7 hours long. Roughly half on our side and half on Italian side.

You see the bivouac from the path even if you have huge diopters.velik nasmeh It is a few meters from it. mežikanje
