The idea came up to conquer Stol directly by road, but Friday evening when I checked those distances a bit, I felt it would be an extremely long journey and we'd surely run out of motivation midway. I haven't seen any such road descriptions anywhere (except cycling ones), and if I did, nothing encouraging.
At village Sedlo we drove almost 1 km higher and started walking the road in foggy morning. It didn't take long for views to open towards Stol, also Krn, Matajur, in distance west Karnic Alps. Meanwhile leaving more and more long serpentines behind, some over 1 km long.
When the road ended for us and a bit before, we stepped into fresh snow, and walking was pure pleasure. Around there opens view to our Julijci and I could almost swear there's no better view. Snowy Kanin mountains, Rombon, Mangart, wonderful Jalovec, Pelci, Triglav and Krn group, in front dry Polovnik ridge, captivated our gazes. At top view of ridge chain, distance Karnics, High Tauern and Dolomites. You find practically everything that exists, much already known and hiked.
On return we went to pl. Božca, where pond looked frozen, of course road snowed, but landscape wonderful. Above us gliding white-headed eagles, which didn't let us leave quickly, though day still short. Seemed we saw also golden eagle and its attack on another eagle.
On path met only one hiker, two a bit off path. On return saw even a car coming towards us.
We figured about 24 km walked, cca 1100 m elevation, and with all stops did one shift. Marked path drawn on zah.JA map shortening all those serpentines, we didn't see.
