Last time when we both ascended towards Krasji vrh, we looked towards the not-so-distant ridge of Kobariški Stol and agreed that we need to go up there once. That it would be the next tour, I really didn't think . We started walking in Breginj right at the sign . We were impressed by one path description with a circular variant, since if possible, it is always the best choice. We still stepped a few meters off the path to the spring of the Bela stream, but not to the Marija Snežna church; we said to ourselves on the way back. Well, it stayed that way . First we ascended to Stol and then, with wonder and admiration of the views offered here with every step, traversed the ridge to Veliki Muzec (as on maps, locals apparently call it Gabrovec). Midway a stop at the bivouac placed on the saddle between one and the other Muzec, at an idyllic spot . Good that we stopped hesitating and ascended to V. Muzec too, as I would have missed the exceptional views, for me the most beautiful on the entire path. On the path we met no one, only on the return on the steep section two Austrians who planned to overnight in the bivouac. In Breginj, at the parking lot with a well-deserved beer, there followed more admiration of the village and the traversed beautiful ridge looming over it .

Yes, Ljubica, definitely the tour is worth repeating. Maybe from another starting point, maybe also in connection with the rest of the ridge. I'm also thinking that it would be interesting to try in winter from Učje on snowshoes. Or to use an overnight stay in the bivouac. Ideas are piling up . Definitely a nicer tour than I imagined back then. The desire for this ridge arose only recently, and it needed to be seized .

Yesterday, my companion and I decided on the way between Porezen and Kobariški Stol for the latter. Already a bit late, we started from the middle of Kobarid. No snow to the forest line, then the snow blanket increases. To the bivouac it's normal, then you already quite feel the snow thickness. We continue on the road, then at the second water collector we turn right and ahead to the ridge. From here the snow is blown to the old base and iced. Cold and wind start showing their teeth more and more, the wind intensifies to the top. It blew so strongly that we could barely stay on our feet. Due to the wind, after a couple of photos we turn back right away. On the way we met quite a few hikers who turned back early due to improper gear. From the tracks, there weren't many on the top yesterday (one, maybe two). On the return, night catches us a bit below the bivouac. Due to the already quite big moon, we don't need lights, and the views to the valley make the path really romantic. We turn on the lights a bit above Kobarid. In the ghost town, we quickly pack into the car and practically speed home on the empty road. Day wonderful without a cloud, and after a long time again a real balm for the soul. Yes, happy are those who experience this...

First, congratulations, mizakaši, for your ascent in extreme wind. I went to rest my eyes and head the day after you. I set off from Učje, past Planina Božca. To there quite romantic and calm. Towards the top, increasingly stronger wind, which was really poisonously cold. Luckily, there was a friendly shelter by the hut on top. And with a view of the glowing sea in the distance, I drank a "salvific" tea on the bench. The views were a real balm for the eyes, whichever direction you looked. But I can only imagine how wild it was the previous day. Dunes, snowdrifts, in places blown to the base... they make you think.

@boštjanko Can you describe this path a bit more? Did you go along the road there before a house that has a roof over the road? Is the path marked? Regards

That house is the former border crossing (police). Park a few dozen meters before it on the right (see the photo, before the 40 limit sign the space is visible). The path starts on the other side along the forest road. It's marked, in winter there is almost certainly a ski track, whether foot-trodden I don't remember, at least not for the last two tours in past winters. Snowshoes? You can go along the road past two hunting huts to Planina Božca and then along the ridge to the top. Or a bit before the alpine pasture through the clearing, which shortens the path considerably; usually there is a ski track there too, also ski tracks. But it's quite long if you go along the road to the pasture and then up. There is also a shortcut that starts quite low; I went up with a local long ago and at my last visit there (17.2.2018) I couldn't spot it. Attaching an album of how it's there in winter: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMR-tF3iW5QFhmSn4XWDOEJWVZdizlhL2tBy0spr3EXNqyhXsqpQBmTqPXtPKqJQQ?key=ak9pQ3dUbHNoOFV5RDlvcTRDU0JoTUNEQ1RyMHJn

Hello Yes, the description holds. I add some details. Park at the former border crossing where Igor was always on duty - R.I.P. First left straight up the meadow, you reach the road and go left on it. Sometimes there was a toboggan run here; they hooked up the toboggan you could borrow on the spot, pulled by a Lada Niva. Also night tobogganing with torches. On the left you have the Kanin massif. Soon you also spot the Krnčice group and Krn at the end. At the first hunting hut turn right into the forest and straight or zigzagging through it to the ridge. There can be predecessor ski tracks here, but not always. Especially in these conditions? If you have a compass with you, you can't get lost. Nor if you have experience with orientation. LP Swiss and happy in the mountains!

Yes, Igor was really there, later also at Predel. I remember the times when the pass was closed at night (winter and summer closure times were different). Igor helped me out more than once to leave the car behind the barrier, right near their building or where the small duty free was later. And he always nailed it to me that I have to be back by the hour, otherwise I'd be "waiting for the car" until next morning because the barrier would be down. Once it was by minutes, the police car was already ready to drive down the valley What wonderful memories, it feels like last year or the year before, but it's twenty or more years ago. Also at Predel or around there, quite a few nice memories or experiences connected with Igor piled up. How he would enjoy this year with so much snow. Maybe after long years from Kanin ridge he'd ski directly to Bc again, like back when it was snowing all the way to the valley

Turbo! Hello! There are plenty of anecdotes connected with him. Once I was returning from a trip from Kotovo sedlo, because the way home was shorter through Italy, but I was without passport, I asked the then militiaman in Rateče if I can go through since Igor is at Predel, after I explained everything to him he let me go without documents. Then at Predel there was immediately a phone call to Radeče, so I went through. Yes, me and friends also experienced several times that legendary ski run from the saddle under Prestreljenik to the slope in Bc. Yes those were the times. Nice memories still remain and don't fade. Best regards! Swiss and stay safe in the mountains!

Thanks to you both, turbo and Swiss, for already nicely answering 5ERR's questions. Not much to add. The path is nice, a bit dragging. Even in winter there are quite a few hiker tracks. But I've noticed in recent weeks via camera an abnormally large visit - a whole column of parked cars at the former border crossing. Which is quite a common phenomenon this year also at other starting points. Nice that you remembered Igor and small anecdotes with him. We locals miss Pinki too Well, while reviving memories - above the second hunting hut years ago I experienced one of my most colorful sunsets in the mountains.

The road from MMP Učja up is cleared and dry to the second hut. A bit further we cut directly to the ridge and right to the summit. Thermometer showed just above zero, so it was great to hike to the top. Views from the top and also all the way during the hike already quite kitschy, and ridge walking is more than enough, since we descended to Kobarid. On descent the sun had already well softened the snow; on sunny slopes there's none left at these altitudes, northern slopes are still snowy below 1000m.
