Breginjski (Kobariški) Stol

I hadn't heard the name Breška gora until recently, if it refers to 1613 m that's in Italy and the official name as Igorb mentions. Records of the 12th offensive on Soča in publications confirm it. The new naming of mountains bothers me, like Prisank which is dialect for Prisojnik and they push it a lot on this portal. On all signs except one I saw PRISOJNIK. One scribbler-name Marxist doesn't deserve it, the inscription on the rock just below the summit even changed from the official one....

You climb Prisank from the north, Prisojnik from the south

Yeah maybe it's true, but that rock is on the south side; the whole hill is in Slovenia. Miri can go to Purzen and understand, yeah, we go to Kucil when talking over beer; but we write correctly.

Definitely the hill should be named as locals call it, not as someone invented in ...

Stol was always Breginjski and will remain so regardless of bureaucrats in Kobarid.

Definitely the hill should be named as the locals call it, and not as someone made up in ... Well, in Slovenia the official language is Slovenian and it has its own linguistic rules and its literary variant. And names like Prisank definitely go way beyond it. Or my favorite - some rest area on the Dolenjska highway is called Dul. I mean hello? Have we thrown all linguistic rules out the window? Then we can have Lblano, Cjale, Kran, Wajdušno, Horico and Tržč.

Even SSJ changes and adapts to how people speak. Why then insist on some mountain names that haven't "caught on"?

Everyone will claim their own again, the debate about this will never end.

Jovan, congrats on the completed route. I admire the inviting ridge of Stol only from Matajur and wait for the right inspiration to drive to Breginj. Regarding naming peaks on maps, you're absolutely right. Instead of fruitless debating on this forum, better write to the Geological Institute of Slovenia.

Saturday, 17.2.2018 (touring descent) Finally enough snow again for enjoyable descent from the summit of Stol. To Božca prišič either by road or forest, from Na Verilih up concrete-hard slopes (windblown), only left along the ridge a strip of soft powder, which goes without skins too. Descent excellent, steep forest shortcuts especially. Recommend skis or snowshoes, without one or the other can be tough https://tubojan.blogspot.si/2018/02/kobariski-stol-turni-smuk.html
