That junction from Planica to hunter's is in the upper part quite wrecked, but nothing special. Hunter's is of course much nicer. Otherwise, hunter's paths are more or less everywhere nice, laid for comfortable walking.

Ciprnik is a wonderful viewpoint, ascent via hunter's path is unique. Path nicely laid and varied, only fallen trees across the path somewhat harder to pass in places. Recommend!

Does anyone know, is there a stamp at Ciprnik too, or only the logbook

Pablo2, many thanks for this link. I didn't know about it. But I must say that this list is not the most accurate, mistake. Last year I was at Cmir, no stamp there! The stamp is at Stanič hut and not at the summit. Now the hut is already closed.... That's why it's not superfluous to ask here sometimes and hikers can tell first-hand if it is or not. Thanks.

I agree, I also found some changes on my hikes. That's why there are dates too, so you know how up-to-date the info is.

On Sunday via a nice, soft, beautifully marked hunting path from Planica to Ciprnik. The path is very scenic, not tiring at all, but your soul doesn't let you hurry because there's so much to see. Bird lovers would notice mountain tits, common tits, coal tits, long-tailed tits, even a green woodpecker I saw very close. At the junction of both paths from Planica, it was visible that the marked path is no longer used, as there were almost no tracks in that direction. Below the summit many new fixed ropes, which in dry conditions practically don't need to be used, but in wet or snow probably. The view from the summit is truly a reward for the ascent. You have to come up here multiple times!

...Wonderful day ... In the lower part some gymnastics is needed. Otherwise the path is frozen, full of fallen leaves. At the construction site machines can be heard working

And does anyone perhaps know the conditions from Kranjska Gora side to Ciprnik (trodden/untrodden, snow amounts, etc.)? And if the hut on Vitranc is open?

The path from Kranjska Gora to Ciprnik was still muddy on Saturday. The hut on Vitranc has been closed for a very long time, but this year Mojčin hut on Vitranc opened 50 m away from the Hut on Vitranc. New marked path is from Lake Jasna along the Vratnika ridge. Descent makes sense under the old chairlift and ski slope. All info at www.vitranc-mojcindom.si

Today 10.12. I ascended from Planica to Ciprnik, traversed to Mojčina hut, Vitranc and descended to Jasna in Kranjska Gora. Snow starts above the hut for filming ski jumps. Crampons, snowshoes and ice axe stayed in the backpack today. About 20 cm of snow on the summit, dry, nowhere icy. Clear, no wind.

Today from Lake Jasna to the summit, return to Planica. Somewhat unpleasant path due to new snow, especially in the lower part where you can't predict what's hiding under the thin layer of snow. From Mojčina hut onwards, or even a bit earlier, there's enough snow and caution can relax a bit. The chains above aren't under snow and serve their purpose. Crawling under fallen trees on the way to Planica somewhat more demanding than in dry conditions . The gray-white story is on the link, recording of the circular path I'll attach tomorrow. http://stezeinsledi.blogspot.com/2015/01/crno-bel-ciprnik-1745m.html Happy trails

Edina - you did the path from Planica then and no issues with trackability. Do you currently need ice axe and classic crampons for this path? And one more question for summer: what's the path from Jasna like and where does it start? Thanks for the answer.

Janez, as described on the link, in dry conditions it's a pleasant marked path. As I read today, yesterday snow came as a surprise in many places. I encountered snow about a hundred elevation meters above the starting point, where the path crosses steep slopes and is quite narrow in places. Fresh powder snow didn't allow good assessment; whether frozen ground below, wet leaves or roots, maybe icy base, not to list more, so I used winter gear. Higher up, where there was more snow, it was easier. Some markers are under snow, which might confuse a first-timer. My assessment is that the path from Planica in such conditions is somewhat less demanding. Judging by footprints, some approached from that side without crampons. Happy trails

A bit fresher info on the path to Ciprnik from Planica. Mojca and I conquered it around noon, the path is especially from the recording cabin onwards quite unpleasant and slippery. It's trodden, but as Edina wrote, sometimes you can't assess what's under the fresh snow. Somewhere it's quite narrow too, and the ascent is hindered by finding the path under fallen trees. Higher up and especially from the junction with the Vitranc path the snow cover thickens and the path is no longer slippery, trodden to the top, chains peeking from under the snow help too. With a bit more caution it goes without winter gear, but in current conditions it is recommended for stable steps. Great views awaited us at the top, more in the photos.

Today I went to Ciprnik via the hunting path from Planica. Weather fantastic, views too. As said, up to RTV bivouac the path is dry, onwards snowy and icy, last 300m pure enjoyment. From RTV bivouac I put on microspikes (highly recommended), classic crampons and ice axe not needed. At the fallen beeches you sweat a bit, one section is very steep, steps made, due to ice at least microspikes necessary, otherwise have to look for other ways. Overall the path is nicer than dry.

Today I headed to Ciprnik. Start was at Lake Jasna, descended to Planica. I was impressed by the neat new signs showing direction. Path is nice, dry, from Vitranc onwards some snow patches, crampons not needed, for descent I put on gaiters since I had them in backpack, but would go without too. More pics on the link: http://jasmina.zaovinkom.si/category/hribi/julijske-alpe/ciprnik/
