Those organizations that supposedly monitor human rights respect are a dime a dozen. What they say and who they criticize depends on who's paying them or who needs to be smeared. First time hearing about this Monitor Civicus.

Anyone with a bit of salt in their head can immediately see the nonsense they write and even get tangled in their own contradictions.

Just a taste:

- "democratic freedoms are increasingly violated, such as the right to free expression, peaceful assembly and association." and "restrictions on the operation of civil society under the government of Janez Janša" on the other hand: "they mention cycling protests"

Oh, are protests allowed in a country that violates freedoms, rights to assembly and association, restricts civil society, ...?

And in Germany they've also dispersed protests multiple times in recent months with tear gas and water cannons and also ban gatherings and associations. Have these monitors written anything against Germany? Ah noooo, the bad ones are Hungary and Poland. Yes, they violate many rights but how many are violated in the west and no one says anything. From beating and throwing Catalan demonstrators down stairs to suppressing minority rights (France the most), to RTV and trade monopolies and ever-increasing corruption (Austria, at least media write about it there, if anyone follows), ...

You can see they treat us as second-class EU citizens. They can do anything, we should just nod and obey!

- "financing of media such as Nova24 TV, Nova24 online and Planet TV is increasing. These media are financed by parties and persons close to Janez Janša's close ally"

And what's unusual about that? Parties finance media everywhere in democratic countries. Even with foreign capital.

And authoritarian Orban has fewer powers than e.g. the French president, let alone the American one.

BTW France is preparing a law according to which police cannot be filmed during their work. That American Floyd came to public only because someone filmed. They could do anything. Did anyone protest in EU? Some human rights organization? Some independent maybe, if any still exists.

EU accuses Poland e.g. of restricting abortion, but when Ireland 20 years ago didn't let a raped girl go abroad for abortion (BTW. Poland has rape as one of the exceptions for abortion) it was all fine.

...
...

@Trobec: "no need for mythical beings, we know Kučan is to blame for everything big grin Well...actually I don't know if he isn't already half mythical being, given how much influence he has. Not only here but all over the world. Guardian, Deutsche Welle, NY Times,...that's just some of the "big" newspapers in his pocket. Oh, and the chief of Brussels police is also his deputy."

Ah that's nothing, look at the influence of Janša and SDS. Today I learn on one news portal that only SDS sheep will get vaccinated against covid. Madonna, how many supporters SDS has in Europe and the whole world. Even blind supporters, sheep! Among politicians of all stripes, regardless of color, claiming they will get vaccinated. British queen e.g.

In Slovenia such 'sheep' are about 50%, strange that SDS gets only around 20 and some percent votes.

Those who will get vaccinated, think a bit. I would be offended if someone calls me a sheep. Any kind. Especially left-oriented ones. Your own people insult you!

Turbo really is.

You're arguing a bit over the donkey's shadow, whether it's on its left or right side. The donkey named Covid19 (read virus) isn't bothered much by that. It goes its own way....

No no. Labeling interlocutors as caviar socialists and those who will bring Nazis to power definitely doesn't suit someone who tries so hard to present himself as a herald of scientific approach.
But since Zlatko was mentioned, I'll just say this: Zlatko is a problematic figure, as is Jenull. But the truth is that the authorities made them symbols of resistance against dictatorship. If you didn't notice, when Zlatko indulged in that primitive harassment of Krek, he got practically no public support. But when a few days later they arbitrarily erased him from the register of self-employed at the ministry of culture without any legal basis, then everyone who cares about democracy and rule of law had to stand by his side. Because that was a move unworthy of a rule of law, where legal acts are valid regardless of who's in power, but rather some oriental satrapy where the ruler grants and revokes privileges as he sees fit.
The same goes for Jenull. Many (including me) don't like him. But when you see how the police targeted him at the protest and fined him for honking (do they fine wedding processions too?) then you have to take a principled stance and stand by his side. That was an act of state repression and we all know he wasn't fined for honking, but for publicly protesting against government measures. Claiming anything else is hypocrisy.

It was very interesting.

In a rule of law state, the process also matters. Maybe Zlatko did break the rules too, but that needs to be established in the proper procedure, not by writing some free essay and titling it a decision. Rajko Pirnat said his piece about this decision in the latest Mladina, outright saying that from a legal perspective it can't be taken seriously. In short, if we're in a rule of law state and Zlatko is supposed to have broken rules, initiate a procedure against him and prove it to him. Anything else is complete arbitrariness, which is by no means acceptable.
As for the rest, just this - it only took 46 pages of the thread to get to partisans and home guards. Quite a good achievement, I'd say ...

Primož, how dare you post such an article?? Well, you can see from afar that it's left-wing propaganda again and consequently misleading the people, because JJ and the government are not like that velik nasmehvelik nasmehvelik nasmeh
Otherwise the article appeals to me, it writes as it is, even if some are still closing their eyes and have persecution mania because of the left-wing virus velik nasmeh Especially the in-between tweets are worth gold mežikanje

@jax: you were the first to mention partisans and home guards. mežikanje

Otherwise I agree regarding Zlatko. Regardless of the fact that he deserves it, at least morally - law is law and rule of law state! I don't know his work, apparently he does create something and records some albums and such, so it doesn't hold that he spends money improperly as somehow written in that sense in the decision.

Oh, it's not true but it is: apparently Jenull is also on state cultural subsidy. Well, as for him and that honking, I think it's not controversial. He was honking, people in Prešeren Square also want peace. They fined not only him but other protesters for various offenses and why should he be an exception?

Victory of course those who confiscated his car. Forgive me if I say he's stupid. It was exactly known that there would be swarming cops and he exactly knew that they were checking drivers and issuing fines already last Friday, and he comes driving without permission! eek

Oh, pardon. Primož didn't mention partisans and home guards. He only mentioned the occupier and the year 1941. I deeply apologize for putting that so rudely in his mouth.

Oh politics, when I start reading headlines and turn on the TV with the news, my hair stands on end. They say the same thing, write the same 100x. It's not controversial that they postponed operations for 8,000 people and 12,000+ check-ups. How many of them will die because they won't get to the check-ups and further treatment on time. How many people will become unemployed because of the measures, how many people will fall into the vicious circle of poverty. Etc. that doesn't interest them. But they enjoy a different system, how to keep a person in the head day after day. jezik

Matej, in which country do you live? I feel like you're not in Slovenia.
I myself was very satisfied this year with all health services. I must say even more so than previous years. Everywhere I was scheduled, I was scheduled for a time and at that time friendly received and treated. It didn't matter whether it was a general practitioner, specialist or dentist. The preventive check-up was also performed, which was said in spring not to be. At the specialist they postponed my term in spring, but later notified me when I got my turn. Maybe someone really waited longer for some operation, but that happened before too. It's not this year's problem as they want to present it now.

I was just thinking of saying it myself. Two weeks ago I had an examination at UKC, this week at the lab, in January scheduled for an ultrasound and nothing particularly priority, thing that's been dragging for a few years and just somewhat annoying and supposedly not dangerous

Well, I looked a bit into that CIVICUS Monitor. Really, completely unknown organization, and their seat, guess where, in Johannesburg! velik nasmeh

And who rated Slovenia there?

Brankica Petković from the Peace Institute, director of the umbrella network of Slovenian NGOs CNOVS, Goran Forbiči and activist, protester and president of the Mladi plus union, Tea Jarc. And no one else. Alles klar!

They just spread their propaganda through some XY organization with an important name, which leads the average reader to think it's really some authoritative organization with a rich tradition of fighting for human rights, in short, if they say it, and from abroad, it must be true!

In reality, it's amateurs who probably can barely find Slovenia on the map, let alone really know the situation here.
