On Tuesday I was at Lipanci - on the road to Planina Zajavornik it was hard for a normal car to drive or to meet because there were deep tracks from forestry machinery on some sections. Best to call the caretaker at Lipanci before leaving to see if the road is newly cleared.

Does anyone know if the hut will be open on the holiday, Monday February 8th?

The hut at Lipanci is always open, since Jože is always there as a good warden and lives there. Little chance he'll visit Vrba in Gorenjska then.

hi, interested which direction you recommend for visiting Bled hut and on to Debela peč (does the starting point matter anyway?)

I assume paths are trodden, but if anyone has recent first-hand experience (current conditions, anything extra to watch out for...) from last days, warmly recommended. Planning visit tomorrow.

thanks for any opinions and best regards

For conditions on the path to Debela peč, best to call the hut warden at Lipanci (051/621 021, 051/633-769). On Tuesday, e.g., it was poorly trodden on Mrežce, and it was snowing in between...
The starting point is by the road to Rudno polje, a bit further from the turnoff to Šport hotel, go right into the forest or, if the road is plowed, by car from Mrzli studenec to planina Zajavornik and then on foot... Good luck!

As said before, the forest road is drivable only to Kranjska planina, further probably only with good 4x4s. Access to Lipanci is also possible from the Šport Hotel turnoff (100 m further right into the forest road) or about 2 km before Rudno polje again right, over Pl. Javornik. It takes about half an hour more walking in both cases to the monument at Pl. Javornik. Above Pl. Lipanca, an avalanche under load from hiker-skier-snowshoer is not excluded. In the afternoon at Zadnji Vogl it buried a ski tourer!.

Thanks to both for the information. Due to new snow and the incident at Vogl, we'll leave Debela peč alone for a bit nasmeh

Yesterday I was at Blejska koča. The path to Debela peč is not trodden. We tried to go to Mrežce, but it sank too much and we turned back. Those with snowshoes managed to reach the top.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how it is on Debela peč in these conditions? LP

We started yesterday's afternoon ascent at the monument and then continued along the well-packed track to Blejska koča. After refreshment we continued towards Debela peč, but on the summit ridge due to strong wind we ended the ascent at Okroglež and descended to the valley. Skiing conditions so-so. Wind-packed snow, some places blown off, then a bit icy,... In short variable conditions not allowing any "relaxing". Best ski part seemed to me in the forest under Lipanca, from where we skied to the car in nice settled snow. LP Andrej

A nice morning lured me to Debela peč. The path to Blejska koča is trodden. In the hut I learned from the warden that after the new snow Debela peč hasn't had many visitors these days. Then I thought it's time to visit it again. I came across a ski tourer's track, which I followed for a large part of the path, only sometimes due to the views I went my own way. In the early forenoon there was not much sinking, the lower snow layer held, that last snow was fluffy - pleasure to walk in. On the way back it was a different story, the snow had softened so that it sank a bit. I thought I'd be the only one on the summit today but ski tourers joined me, who also skied down from the top of Debela peč, they went super.

Due to the wind, I skipped the planned ascent to Kredarica today and went to the Pokljuka ridge.
I stopped at the parking lot by Medvedova konta, where to Lipanca it is still half an hour of easy walking. Above, I went past Jožeta at Lipanca, turned onto the hunters' path around the southern Sp. Brd and to the Okrogelža ridge. Cool wind, typical prewinter calm and snow under my feet created a joyful and calm mood. A few steps more and I stepped onto Debela peč, where ahead of me there was only one visitor from Bled, direction Pl. Klek. Wind gusts were increasing considerably in strength, I could hear the rustling of scrub and the movement of pines here and there. On the top I decided to continue on a loop tour via Klečica-Pl. Klek-unmarked Zmrzlica-Kotla to the starting point. Along through the scrub I was not treated to even one Jurček. After talking with the shepherd, who was also looking for mushrooms around, he told me that they had all been picked. Years ago he himself got them at known spots, now only a little, saying that modern mushroom pickers come to pick even with flashlights at night. He also said that at Pl. Klek, despite the regulated cheese dairy status, they cannot sell cheese due to some competition towards Lipanca and PD. Bled, while the Bohinj pasture community on Pl. Javornik has no such problems.
The loop tour of the western part of the Pokljuka ridge was very nice, solitary, in places pathless already quite overgrown, even with blueberries!. For the loop tour I used 4h 30min and I recommend it to others too, because it is very nice!nasmeh

Very nice early autumn hike which has a touch of winter breath. Nice pictures. I went to Debela Peč years ago with family in summer season on the usual path from Pokljuka. Viharnik, I always like to check out your posts and they always excite me! Nice mountaineer's greeting!

Since I myself want to go to Debela Peč, because it's supposed to be very nice, I'm interested where Medvedove konte are on Pokljuka, I've already been there (to the old barracks) and didn't see that sign anywhere or wasn't attentive enough, and also if I wanted to go to planina Zajamnike please describe the path, because I don't know my way around the mountains that well yet, otherwise I hope there'll be some decent weather on Saturday.
