I too of course observed the lunar eclipse, pics aren't anything special because I don't have a dSLR, but for a quick one it's fine: http://bojanambrozic.wordpress.com/2013/04/26/delni-lunin-mrk-25-4-2013/

Hi,

can anyone advise which small compact camera is worth buying. I have D90 but it's too big/too heavy and too cumbersome to carry in the hills.

I looked at Sony DSC-RX100 or something similar, price stays in those frames or less.

Thanks

For the mountains it's good to have as much optical zoom as possible, which this Sony doesn't have. One of the best cameras for this purpose is this one:
https://www.mimovrste.com/digitalni-kompaktni-fotoaparati/panasonic-digitalni-fotoaparat-lumix-dmc-tz70?v=761910001,
as it offers 30x optical zoom and the other features are top-notch too.

For a bit less money there's the previous model which has practically the same features.

#mkonci, I had a similar problem, so I got something comparable to a DSLR. I got Sony DSC RX 100 M3 and it's top-notch. It makes great pictures in all conditions. Sure the price is accordingly high, but if you're a photo freak and care about quality, it's no problem.

RX100 is a store robbery at that price and in picture quality it can compete with much more expensive cameras. Lack of zoom to some extent compensated by high resolution. You have to decide what is more important to you. Zoom or picture quality. I would take the latter without hesitation. But hand on heart... how often do you use high zoom on a trip?

TZ70's strong point is also the viewfinder, which RX100 doesn't have. One more factor to consider.

Sony digital camera CyberShot DSC-RX100M3, costs about 800 euros. Take Canon digital camera PowerShot SX610 HS costs 200 euros. Then someone will appear again saying every camera is good only the photographer isn't.velik nasmehzavijanje z očmi I'll give away my old SX130i which isn't worth a dime but works and makes solid pictures.

Sony RX 100 M3 - this one is absolutely too expensive, for good pictures I have D90.
Price around 300 EUR is acceptable for the second camera so I'm still looking.

@mkonci: As I say. Sony RX100. From Austria (on the previously posted link http://www.electronic4you.si/ which is a first-hand verified reliable online store, it's actually Majdič's online shop) it costs a couple of 10€ more than 300€. And it's not the M3 model, but the first version.

Still deciding. Today I checked out this Sony DSCRX100, it's nice and all but really lacks zoom...

Does anyone have experiences with this Sony DSC-WX500B?

One more thing I'm curious about, noticed some have wifi and GPS built-in, how useful is that? And how does GPS work, does it remember the location where the photo was taken or why is it built-in?

mkonci.
Built-in GPS accurately determines your location and geotags every photo file with location info. In GPS logger mode, your movement path is recorded even when camera is off.
With WiFi you can send photos directly to your computer, of course if you have WiFi signal in the field.

Just to check in. In the end I went for Canon S120.
So far satisfied, real test awaits today and tomorrow...

Here are some pics with the new camera, after two days of use I'm satisfied with it.
Better to have a bit more at wide end of zoom (24mm) and a bit less zoom than lots of zoom and poor wide end.

The only thing missing is the camera assembling panorama itself, no that function and image transfer to phone if no wifi.
Photos are OK, not pro but much better than phone, and easier use and handier on trail parts.
zoom 120mm1

one just like that3
