Glinščica River Valley - Val Rosandra

Print
Bandzo12. 07. 2014 10:45:42
Yesterday with my brother we went to Glinščica river valley to do some ferrata and climb alongside them. First we warmed up on nearby pitch at Rose di Inverno, then went up and closed the loop. Once warmed up, we went to ferrata Bruno Biondi. We did it from left to right (towards road) and back (towards Rose di Inverno). Bruno Biondi ferrata is mainly longer and technically more demanding than Rose di Inverno, though the latter has a tough C section right at the start. On BB stamina shows mostly. When returning on it we were quite tired and happy for artificial holds carved in rock, which we had resented when passing them the first time velik nasmeh I'd say one part on BB (from D to L) is C/D difficulty but really nice to climb and learn and get used to such tours.

Best regards and safe steps,
Ben

On Saturday along the path from castle Socerb - Glinščica river valley - Boljunec.
In the initial part of the path there is a nice view of Koper and Trieste bay. Into the valley we descended via Comici tower and past church St Mary on Rocks. Along the path past Supet waterfall we arrived at inn in Botač. Followed ascent to old railway line and along it towards Boljunec, where we ended path at vine of Žametna črnina, world's oldest vine, gifted by Maribor city to Dolina municipality.

The Glinščica River Valley (Val Rosandra) has also captivated me/us and to the nice descriptions of the predecessors and Lidija Jesih we are adding our contribution from Sunday's excursion.
If you're going somewhere for the first time, it's actually the hardest to find the right starting point, especially if you want to make a nice circular tour. To Boljunec (Bolunz in Triestine and Bagnolli della Rosandra in Italian, if you'll be looking for the place on maps), you can arrive from the Primorska motorway either by turning from Kozina towards the former border crossing Krvavi potok and then further through San Lorenzo (Jezero) to the bottom of the valley, or logistically simpler, if after the Kastelec tunnel you leave the motorway and drive in the direction of Socerb to Boljunec. In the middle of the place, by the main road, there is a relatively large parking lot (free) in front of a quite prominent building with the inscription: Teatro France Prešeren. From there, we soon find some direction signs that direct us through the settlement towards the mtn. hut Mario Premuda and the Val Rosandra valley.
We continued our path over the relatively demanding Comicijev ridge above the little church of St. Mary on Pečeh, descended to the waterfall, returned along the river gorge on the right bank, then climbed via a shorter and easier ridge (I don't know if it has a name) to the first viewpoint at Zabrežec, from there descended to the already mentioned mountain hut Mario Premuda.
For visiting the ferratas, which are not visibly marked by the road, from Boljunec you need to drive uphill, almost to the village San Lorenzo, we parked at the second viewpoint, from there down the main road you need to walk about 150 m and find the branch-off, path to the right, where then through the grove you reach the beginning of the first ferrata "Zimske rože".
It's a pity that these places are not Slovenian, ... although the inscription: Senca Confini - without borders, you can read it in many places.
We park in the middle of Boljunec ... and the surroundings look just like Slovenian1
Boljunec, Sunday morning - the town square is still completely empty2
From the settlement we head towards the Glinščica valley (Val Rosandra)3
For our tour we choose the direction towards Botač and the chapel of St. Mary na Pečeh4
To the first viewpoint at Zabrežec, we climb towards the end of our circular path5
Start of Comicijev greben, left below it and above the Glinščica gorge, chapel sv. Marije na Pečeh6
Comicijev greben is in places very demanding and very exposed, we avoid the hardest part on the left7
Our team at the top, where a symbolic monument to Italian alpinist Comici and some markers8
For descent we choose one of the gullies east of the chapel, belay and rope very welcome!9
When we reach the scree, we head towards the waterfall10
Group under the waterfall, in the canyon of the Glinščica river11
We walk through the canyon of the Gliščica river, in the direction of the flow, along its right bank12
Up a shorter and less demanding ridge to the first vantage point above the Mario Premuda hut13
Along the ridge to the first vantage point at Zabrežec overlooking the hut and Boljunec14
View from the small ridge below the first vantage point onto the opposite Comici ridge15
View of Boljunec from the vantage point at Zabrežec16
Also below the vantage point - plenty of opportunities for climbing17
At the Mario Premuda alpine hut in the valley (beer costs 4 Euros)18
... and since we hadn't had enough yet, we also tried the Zimske rože via ferrata19
But the start of the via ferrata has to be found, as there are no signs along the main road20

Yesterday we walked the circular path through the Glinščica valley, which I had been planning for a long time and we didn't regret it, the path is beautiful and also scenic and I highly recommend it if you are somewhere nearby and take the opportunity to visit like we did.

On some map I have our "hiking trail" through Val Rosandra valley (Boljunec-Botač-Zabrežec-Boljunec), but here I see everyone climbing vertically... Is the path passable without SVV? (I also have no climbing experience... I can still climb up, but down is already harder mežikanje)

Hiking trail is one thing, via ferrata another, climbing routes the third. And in Glinščica you have all that. And no, for that loop you don't need any self-belaying.

Today we took advantage of the beautiful day and went again to my beloved Glinščica river valley, where we climbed again the dynamic via ferrata Bruno Biondi, then also the Zimska roža via ferrata. Almost no wind, day perfect-without a cloud. Super! velik nasmeh
The Bruno Biondi via ferrata runs through all these rocks. It looks short, but the path is dynamic and therefore takes quite a while =)1

Yesterday with PD Medvode to Glinščica river valley for a nice scenic circular tour. Started from Boljunec direction, descended via Zabrežec viewpoint to Botač village, then past church on Pečeh to Commicijev turn, over Vrh nad Krogljami back to Boljunec. The beauties of this valley really captivate! We also admired the first blooming trees!

Today through the Glinščica valley and then along the ridge to Comicijev turn. The ridge is quite airy, the path exposed at one spot (the pinnacle can be bypassed on the left). Otherwise the rock is excellent, very compact and non-slippery. From the turn we descended past the little church towards the waterfall, which still has lots of water now.

Yesterday I also headed out for a trip through the Glinščica valley (without via ferratas nasmeh). It's gorgeous and there really are paths for every taste. Some photos and my impressions at http://potovanja-tamara.blogspot.com/2015/05/potep-po-dolini-glinscice-val-rosandra.html

Kigeot, just a small correction - I think you didn't photograph an ibex. It is from the family of hoofed animals, but not an ibex.

Windy weather in the hills postponed my goal to the via ferratas in Glinščica. Sun, warm weather and moderate breeze turned out to be an excellent choice velik nasmeh. First time here and now I can compare them to others I've done. *Bruno Biondi* and *Nos* aren't quite for everyone, but not particularly demanding. In details they reach good C category, I don't agree with the often mentioned D mark. *Zimska vrtnica* is more generally accessible, poor C. Rock is excellent everywhere, natural or carved steps at all important spots, cables not too loose. These via ferratas are similar in difficulty to those in Škocjan in Carinthia, the traversing style is almost the same. In short … Glinščica is recommended for both via ferrata and martinčkanje nasmeh
Glinščica Valley1
The most demanding via ferrata, rating good C2
The holds are good, both natural and artificial3
The cables are properly tensioned too, even though we are in Italy4
He had all the via ferrata equipment but somehow didn't put it on :)5
Commemorative book somewhere on the path6
Zimska vrtnica, the easiest via ferrata, rating poor C7
Nebeška lojtrica. Not as bad as it might look8

Correction to @B2's post on the other page:

Alpinist Emilio Comici did not die in Glinščica but in Val Gardena, where he lived after leaving Trieste. The monument dedicated to him above the Church of St. Mary at Peče is there because he started his mountaineering activities in Glinščica.

Even at noon it looked like the Comici ridge wouldn't happen, but luckily the weather turned for the better. nasmeh
The ridge is quite exposed and takes you directly to the monument. Belaying possible on bolts, which are quite frequent.mežikanje Followed descent via gully towards the waterfall (belaying option too) and then along the right riverbank to the valley.
And since we missed the sun we also visited the via ferratas above Glinščica. velik nasmeh

Start of Comicijev greben1
One of the more difficult details2
Beautiful ridge, although relatively short3
Connection with the marked path below the summit4
Descent gully ends with a jump5
If you go along the right path you see much more than along the marked, left one...6

Went with Miha to the karst edge to stretch arms a bit, as fresh snow in high mountains currently poses avalanche danger. Via ferratas Bruno Biondi and Nos, with nice views of Trieste Gulf? Industry. Weather perfect, 11°C in the sun
