Hello! I'm interested in both skiing and on-foot conditions on Golica, from Betel? Recommended path, have avalanches slid? Thanks!

Maybe this helps...(posted on touring ski forum http://www.turni-klub-gora.si/~frances/razmere/ Golica (Rajnhold, 24.03.2010) "...Most of Golica is already avalanched, which gave me some confidence given this tragic winter's events. For ascent I chose summer variant, as key part under hut already avalanched what could, but caution still advised. Without skis it'd be sado-maso variant, recommend snowshoes to walkers. Mainly ski from top through nice skiable slush to Ovčarska bajta and on road almost to Fenc...."

"Key part" is the entire section of the summer path from where it brings us out of the forest all the way to the hut.. As long as there is still any snow on the slope, only the winter variant should be mandatorily used for the approach. Personally, I wouldn't offer the above subjective assessment to the general public.. There is a weighty reason why Golica is truly bare.

Via the winter path you get there faster than via the other, but the winter path is quite steep and just below the summit you need to climb a little on those pegs (a couple of pegs).

Mate07, let's admit that this isn't "climbing" in the sense of the word. The path is easy by ratings, and it is. A few pegs don't make the path more difficult in this case, but just pleasanter. Steep means no stroll... and if it's really steep, we adjust our pace. But I think it's not that bad.. Confidently, boldly and cheerfully up the winter path to Golica! (or at least to the hut) You won't regret it for sure!

Thanks for the advice! I don't like this "grannyish" pushing of someone who wanted to help. Everyone has a slightly different view on mountains or peaks. Something is comfy for me, too much for someone else. And vice versa Good luck!

Hi. I went up the winter path 4 days ago, conditions weren't really nice. I had fog, snow was also too soft, sinking up to the waist and very wet and heavy snow it was. Regards

cjendaw, this forum is meant for that. Explanations of warnings etc. are needed much more than courageous encouragement of something, for which in terms of classics it's clear to most experienced that it simply falls away (should). I think it's wise to follow old (outdated to some) principles about where to go hiking in certain conditions or seasons. So principles from times when there weren't so many mountain accidents, which we witnessed this season. Among the deceased there weren't many "granny" cases, but the opposite. Everyone has their views on mountains, principles and warnings should apply equally to all, because they're "written" based on (sad) experiences...

I'm interested if the path is now dry, or what it's like. I'd go from Planina pod Golico. And of course I'm interested if the narcissi below are blooming. Up there I know usually at this time they're not yet. Thanks

Below (Plavški Rovt) the narcissi are awakening, or not yet blooming in the true sense of the word. The path to Golica is mostly dry - no need for winter gear, but still be careful because of wetness, mud, some crusty snow. Haven't been up recently, but I can often check it out quite closely.. So, go boldly!

Yesterday 1.5.: At the parking under Betel there were a lot of cars, so we continued to Križovec, where it was similar.. Direction Pusti Rovt, sedlo Suha, along the ridge to the top. On the ridge quite strong wind, snow mostly just clumps left, on the path below summit some snow, wetness, mud (careful with kids!) In the hut regarding the keepers still similar situation as before.. In Plavški Rovt the narcissi have bloomed. Regards heinz!

Today was on Golica from Planina. Since I was early I still enjoyed some nice views to the valley and surroundings. After ten o'clock the weather went bad. Well I chatted a bit with the hut keepers, goulash, šnoček and back in the rain, narcissi are only in the valley. Higher up it's just crocuses!

Julius, I think your comment is unnecessary. All who read understood, if it stumbled at two words no problem. Patience is a virtue - and best regards to all mountain lovers Matjaz

When do you predict the narcissuses will bloom the most? I plan to take some acquaintances up on 22 May. Regards
