I wanted to write this in the morning too, that sometimes (current conditions) you can go to Grintovec without crampons and ice axe (in backpack as reserve). Given how much snow there is even in April, that idea without gaiters sounds more masochistic or Belgian. (usually in spring it starts sinking hard in the morning, unless it's even icy and hard)

13.04.08 By car to the lower station of the goods cableway to Kokrško sedlo. Trail dry all the way to the single fixed cable in the forest (well, there's now a 'bald patch' after the avalanche). Higher up it starts sinking properly, at the bottom of the saddle we finally put on snowshoes. Snow to the hut completely crusty all the way, walking well, yeah, without snowshoes it would have been much harder. The intention to visit Grintovec abandoned quickly this time, conditions far from rosy (among other things thick fog ...) We warmed up in the winter room, managed to open the door with the ice axe (no damage). Descended without snowshoes, to the bottom of the saddle sinking almost to the butt. In the forest light drizzle catches us, snow underfoot suddenly gone. In the car a pleasant thought embraces us. Was it all real, or just a brief touch of a melting mirage ... Take care, wherever.

Hi, has anyone maybe been on Grintovec today, and what are the conditions like? And is it trodden to the top?

Go check it out, you'll see if it's trodden at all.

Today a bit after six in the morning I started from the lower station of the cableway to Kokrško Saddle. Goal Grintovec. Snow starts a bit above the only fixed cables on the way to the saddle. At the point when you come out of the forest the troubles began. Southern snow and consequently constant sinking to the knees and over. Footprints of predecessors are not much help. Earlier in the forest I met three young guys who started towards Grintovec at one in the morning but only reached Kokrško Saddle and turned back. At Kokrško Saddle strong wind awaited me but that's nothing new here. Towards Grintovec no tracks yet, meaning I would be first. And I went, hesitated a bit but in the end decided to go anyway. What deterred me from continuing was mainly the view towards the summit, which wasn't visible at all due to fog. Well, the thought of breaking trail wasn't pleasant either. But it wasn't that bad at all. Easier than to Kokrško Saddle. The steep initial part of the ascent was the hardest, sinking hard there. Upwards I took my own line, in between stowed the poles, put on crampons and took ice axe in hand, it had become icy. Towards the top fog so thick hardly anything visible, and it always blows there. Worried me a bit, mainly because of the fog. No summit pics therefore, didn't take pics of fog. Down without issues. Descent from Kokrško Saddle due to southern snow not too pleasant either, sinking too much.

I'm one of the three mentioned by the previous poster and we set off towards Grintovec today at 1:00 at night, with the aim of watching the sunrise as the weather forecast was good. Snow really starts a bit above the fixed cables, quite southern and sinking as we broke trail like h... to the saddle. Well after good two hours we reached the saddle around 3:30 but didn't decide for ascent to Grintovec as weather conditions were far from ideal (hurricane wind, cold, no visibility despite full moon). Waited in winter room till dawn and headed back to valley. And I'll attach some pics. Best DJ

Hello! Does anyone know what the current situation is on the path to Grintovec from Kamniška Bistrica past Cojzova hut and over Strehovca? Thanks and best!

The day before yesterday, a colleague was on Grintovec. He ascended from the cargo cableway, over Kokra Saddle to the top. He descended in the same direction. He said that despite the early hour, it sinks in; he made the ascent without crampons, but over Streha with an ice axe. The descent itself was without issues. Below Kokra Saddle, there are spring conditions; you definitely need gaiters and put crampons and ice axe in your backpack, since you don't know what conditions await you on the way. Best, Andrej

I'm a young adventurer, interested in where the bivouac around Grintovec is located. I'm asking this because I need to train at altitude (for high-altitude preparations); by the way, I'm a mountain runner and know what conditions await me up there. We runners (MOUNTAIN) don't know boundaries anyway. But please, if someone tells me not only for this bivouac but also for some other in the Grintovec area. And if possible, let the bivouac be above 2000 meters. LP mountain runner

On the mentioned path there is almost no snow left, only some short snow patches remain which do not hinder walking much. But there might be a few cm of new snow on top, since temp at 2500m is just above zero.

Has anyone been to Grintovec recently? What are the conditions, is there any snow left? Which path is better: Suhadolnik - Grintovec (via Taško, Kokrsko sedlo and Streha) or V Koncu - Grintovec (via Streha)? Thanks for the reply.

On Wednesday afternoon I was on Dolgi hrbet and Grintovec and there were no snow problems on that path. I think it'll be fine from Suhadolnik too. Personally, I find the one via Taško more interesting, as the path to Kokrsko sedlo from Konec drags on and is a bit boring to me. But that's just my opinion. Surely many like the one from KB, and it's even more accessible by car. At least for central Slovenia. Good luck! And as early as possible! Mornings in the mountains are very beautiful, and we avoid thunderstorms.

The path to Grintovec from the direction of V Koncu via Streha or via Taško is completely dry, with exceptions of snow patches and the upper one, which can be fully avoided already below on the upper ramp. In the sun, light clothing is welcome, but take warm reserves anyway. About 100 m below the summit, on the right edge of the ridge, there is a several meters thick snow wall that is airy underneath all the way to Vel. Podov! - don't walk on it! Tomorrow I'll add a panorama. LP-ROK.

Hi, I'm interested if anyone has been on Grintovec in the last days and if you can tell me what the conditions are like, if there's still any snow or if one can go without problems. LP guys
