Hiking boots

Urbanček, nice that you claim that. In the last 6 years I've completely worn out 2 pairs of Tibet boots. They are always softer. Now I'll try the Lhotse boot.

no, no ganda is finemežikanje great for climbing! doesn't hold up on scree and long descentsjezen, it's not a robust boot, flexing at the ankle further enhances the running shoe feel...eek grip is excellent, lightweight and breathable, perfect for hiking, nightmare for descents. first impression Trango Guide: more robust than ganda, same grip, slightly better for descent (comfort), good for scree, not as breathable. in short: you can't get boots like they used to make anymore! soon we'll be eating dogs...

Hi!

I'm interested; for Annapurna I'm thinking of buying Hanwag Yukon or Scarpa Ladakh or Heklo. I read that Yukon are all leather, the interior has no Gore-Tex either, which is what I'm asking you now: is it worth it in the long term? I'm also hesitating between Alpina Lhotse and Lowa Tibet.

Which boot would you recommend most? Thanks for the answer!

@jurif,
not every boot fits every foot wink even if the boot is from a prominent manufacturer and the price is accordingly high.
For Hanwag I know they are made in the EU, much else is already Chinese. I've had the Hanwag Friction GTX for about ten days and I'm very satisfied (three orng tours so far, hiking, scrambling II, via ferrata). Go or call Annapurna, they have Hanwag and Scarpa. I usually turn to Rok or Olga and their advice on any piece of gear (not just footwear) is spot on smile And something about Gore-Tex. In early August my Asolo Guide boots with GTX membrane and freshly waxed got soaked after 4 hours of heavy rain (wading through grass up to the waist, Loška stena). So GTX is not almighty. Years ago I had some Raichle without membrane and I waxed them with some weird cream that I bought in Austria. As long as those boots stayed dry with that cream, no later GTX ones did.
In any case, try at least two or three models. Also the first feel of how it fits your foot is important. Good luck with the choice!

That Gore-Tex is not a key condition for boot choice. Over years even that membrane wears out, boot in summer breathes less than normal ones. But there is beeswax or impregnation spray for winter or leather already factory impregnated. Thicker nubuck leather rarely soaks anyway.
I think with Ladakh or new Hekla you can't go wrong, all praise for about 20 years, how long on market and practically unchanged, all one piece leather. For other brands don't know, but all depends on foot shape and feel when trying on. I think Annapurna has boots for testing, because only on tour you really know what you have on foot.

Greetings. Last year I bought a hiking boot, Triglav Planika pro. After one year I thought it would break in, but on longer tours the soles still hurt. Is it because of the boot's hardness? Maybe there are some inserts for such things and if so, where can I buy them?

Thanks in advance for the answer,

best regards, andrej

In Sanolabor: silicone heel insert or for the whole foot, super thing.
Heel one price around 15€.

I'm interested if anyone has already checked out Alpina's latest product, the Lhotse boot. It tempts me so much that I've tried it on twice and it fits like a glove. But I can't decide between these and Garmont Arizona. Price-wise Alpina is about 40€ more expensive. Interested in your opinion.

potočan, I already bought the Lhotse boots, but they are still waiting for the first serious tour. As you say, it fits like a glove, it also has two insoles for volume adjustment. Worth spending those 40%. Try to get a discount. Best.

andrej83 26.9.2011,

so you don't waste money needlessly at Sanolabor, buy them at Lidl or Hofer. They have them occasionally, follow their ads a bit or check their website.
I have a whole collection of them and believe me, they are very good. Padded in combination with special plastic that isn't gel, they are even much better than those offered by Sanolabor. Comfortable and soft, balm for the soles.
And price, max € 4.00/pair.

Well, today my family bought me Alpina brand hiking boots for my birthday, Nepal model. They have quite a long tongue, which bothered me a lot at first. I chose this model because it's suitable for wider feet. We were also at the shop that has Planika hiking boots. Super otherwise, but I didn't have extra socks with me and wasn't sure I'd take them.
Up to now I've been hiking in high mountains with Planika hiking boots that've been in use for quite a few years and accordingly have many heavy tours behind them. Really interesting, but when you get to the valley and sit in the car, you don't feel like you have anything on your feet at all. Never, really never, have they gotten soaked. Really super they are.
Oh, these boots were 179€, I also bought hiking socks along, so today was a super buy. Saturday I'll test everything and hope it works well.

If you bought the same boots tomorrow, you'd save 45 euros, because tomorrow and the day after there's a 25% discount.

Bah, now whatever it is. But we used the discount from Alpina and also from PZS. I have them on now, I feel pretty ok.

Here, I got Hanwag Yukon at Annapurna for 155 €, seems really cheap to me for such a boot. Quality, stiff enough, comfortable, otherwise I'll put silicone insole inside, just impregnate 3 more times and done. They were discounted from 220, so 30% off, didn't want lower even after long haggling.

For a good quality boot that sells on the market, 30% is quite a nice discount and even abroad they don't lower below that value.
