What shoe size do you have? If you plan to use boots also on glacier tours, it's worth buying them in specialized stores (for quality, advice, and larger selection; in SLO, e.g., Iglu, Kibuba, Gornik, Annapurna,...). You should also check what crampons you have (classic, semi-automatic, automatic) and that the boot fits you well.

Does anyone have La Sportiva CORE GTX SURROUND summer shoes?
I'm interested in how satisfied you are with them (material durability, sole, ...). How about softness on descents? How do they perform on wet terrain, ...?

Thanks in advance nasmeh

I've had these shoes for two months. Extremely light (800g pair), they don't slip on wet grass, I hardly feel anything on my feet. Not for winter ascents. I also use them on off-trail paths. They flex on steep traverses. The sole is soft; signs of wear appear after a short time. My previous Lowa shoes lasted eight years, these will last much less.

Hello,

please for some opinion or advice regarding boot quality. I'm deciding between:

SALEWA MTN TRAINER MID GTX

and the local brand

Alpina TIBET.

I would use the boots mainly in mid-mountains and on "home" hikes. Now with the Alpina sale, the difference is under 40€, but I might prefer SALEWA. I tried TIBET, but it seemed a bit stiff; for break-in it's probably better. What do you say?

Just bought Lowa Mountain Expert GTX evo, will try them tomorrow (Kamniško sedlo-dam).
Foot feels fantastic, stiff sole, grooves for crampons (semi/auto), breathes well. User experiences: very durable, suitable for winter tours, ice climbing. Great that the foot breathes well and good for summer hiking too.
A bit heavier than Salomons, pair ~1700g, but not bad.
Will report on terrain tomorrow

davidoff, I also tried Alpino Tibet recently. It seemed good to me, good sole, the only thing that bothers me is that it's all leather. The purchase definitely isn't wrong, now you have the sale too (for 100€ it's yours).
No experience with Salewa.

Jan, thanks for the advice. I'll probably decide for alpino after all. Now while the sale is still on.

I have SALEWA MTN TRAINER MID GTX shoes and must sadly say they aren't quite OK for me.

As for quality so far no remarks, sole also hard and super for climbing.

Shoe for narrow foot so I thought they'd be super for me, but first started pressing on heel (needed to remove one insole) then OK, I still have blisters from them though I've been wearing them for some time. Same remarks heard from others.

Maybe a bit late for advice to davidoff, but can say that Alpina Tibet are very good boots. I've been wearing them for years and no problems with them. Recently bought new ones and first wore them when I went from Kot via Vrbanovih špic to Rjavina and back to Kot. Long 10-hour tour, boots like already well broken-in. No pressing or blisters. Upper leather part practically indestructible, Vibram sole also durable. I wear it out in two years, and I hike quite a bitnasmeh

The good thing about the Tibet model is precisely that in the front part where the boot suffers most there are no seams because it's one piece. Also elsewhere no seam problems. True, never did multi-week hikes. Anyway, for 100 euros, it seems a quality boot to me.

Primoza, I almost can't believe this. I have had Tibet for 2 years, in that time done about 15 full-day high-mountain tours and more mid-mountain ones, despite my 100 kg vs yours like new. Did you slide on scree? I see the sole evenly worn. I myself already destroyed boots after one slide from Mojstrovka to Vršič.

I have had Tibet for about 8 years. The first ones were 2x better, lasted more, better sole, less wear, walked in winter too as no cold feet nor soaked. Newer Tibet V different story, slippery when wet, sole nowhere near as good as first models, wet socks despite greasing with fat. Only plus is sole change for 40e, never blisters, good off-path, dry ferrata. Newer not as good on snow as old model, dry snow ok but južn snow like skating. Price with discount 90e, still half La Sportiva but not so noble, modern with three colors. Buy such, fully wear out at home, still wear (ca 150000m vert). In mountains usually boots 1-2y then new.

If you want to buy hiking shoes or other gear cheaply, in the shop where they sell what they bought from bankruptcy masses... just getting Pohodnik goods, all 50% off. Shop in BTC, upstairs hall A.

If we consider price and quality, by my experience all those praised foreign firms still hide before Alpina. Sure worth buying when discounts (Tibet recently down 40%, don't know if sale still on).
And supposedly good to check Made in Slovenia (not Romania or wherever else they make them).

Vast majority of producers can go
"hide" before Alpina. Maybe design a bit nicer at foreign makers, but what when to me that in puddle, mud, dew or snow means nothing.

I fully agree with the above regarding Alpine! I have a very bad experience with Mammut (something of the best from Switzerland). I was very disappointed with the mountaineering boots, which are priced far above the average of similar ones from Alpine, but at the same time absolutely below average quality.
More about this in the next few days (complaint)
