Mammut has never made good mountaineering boots and has never established itself in this segment of mountaineering gear. The more this company expands into different products now, the worse the quality, which is completely understandable. Unfortunately, Scholler is hardly traceable anymore in their unique hiking pants program. Good is what is expensive, but for me overpriced if you pay 500 and more euros for one poor jacket. But it's certain that one of our established manufacturers like Alpina can fully match the quality of famous foreign brands with lower prices or lower labor costs. I wear Scarpa and won't trade it for any other boot .

Interesting. But after three years of wearing Mammut gojzar boots, I'm completely satisfied with them.

@heinz - I hope the boots weren't bought at ProMontana. Last year I bought a Low there, which was similar to the one I bought 12 or 13 years ago. After all those years of use, the sole was like F1 tires, but it still held in wet and on rock. Well, in the end it peeled off on one boot; who would hold it against them, when they endured all the ascents, approaches to walls and all descents over rough terrain so well. The new ones tore at the seam on the third trip. I lost my nerves with the seller for quite a while, but they didn't want to accept the complaint. @viharnik - I agree with the Scarpa rating. Now I do everything with low Scarpa, because I can't find a high and very light boot in my size. Probably I'll succeed when ferragosto ends At Igluj they were always correct regarding complaints.

Yeah, I'm not satisfied with the quality of Mammut boots either. Probably some of the worst so far. They grip the ground well otherwise, and walking is very good. That's a plus. But I bought mine at the beginning of last week and since then I've been once to Planjava - didn't go down the scree from Kamniško sedlo, and twice from Stahovica to the top of Korena. And the soles are already quite destroyed. Before that I had Salomon for one year and did at least 2500 km with them (last year I didn't keep records per individual boots). This week I'm testing low La Sportiva Ultra Raptor boots and I have to say I'm very impressed with them so far. They grip better than any other boots I've had so far and for ascents low boots are much better for me than high ones. Even on descents low boots have their advantages for me. As for Igluj. I'm not impressed with them at all.

Since the debate just touched on satisfaction with boots, I'll ask something in that direction too How satisfied are you with Salomon boots especially now that they have Contagrip soles?

If you mean going to high mountains, stay away from Salomons..

This is a bit of a sweeping judgment. I have winter Salomon boots myself, and I won't trade them. Contagrip grips well too, no worries

Yes, winter Salomon boots. Super Mountain 9, insulated. Sportiva hides in front of them. Too bad they don't make them anymore

@Smetar My feet have been using Salomon hiking boots with Contragrip sole for the last few years and I have no complaints. The boots are extremely light and comfortable for walking, as if I were wearing gym shoes. I use low boots for trekking on local peaks and I think after five years they still serve their purpose, despite a lot of mileage over rough and steep terrain. With high SALOMON QUEST 4D 2 boots, I go to the high mountains without fear or prejudice, whether it's rock or grass , though the sole is much softer than on boots for semi or automatic crampons. 20 years ago or more, I remember we "crawled" over Plemenice, Jalovec... with high red PUMA sneakers and there were no problems.. now... no comment!

In general, stay away from Salomons.... For me personally, they didn't last even one summer season (I'm not talking about winter).... the sole and the mesh over the toes are definitely the weakness...

Thanks a lot for the opinions. Hard to stay away from Salomons, I've been using them for a few years for easier hikes But I was interested in other users' opinions too... I like the boots because they are light, comfortable and grip well when dry, but when wet they really slip :/

I myself have had low Salomon boots (different models) with Contagrip sole for a few years and they perform great. In between I had some Merrell, but returned to Salomons. They always last several seasons, I use them in fall and spring instead of sneakers, in summer for lower peaks (Ratitovec, Blegoš,...). Haven't had high ones yet. Anyway, they work for me and I recommend them.

Thanks! I got them and already tested. Much better boots than the Mamuts which I had to complain about due to destroyed soles, cracks on the rubber upper part and bad seams. In two weeks I did two tours to Triglav with MAMUT RIDGE HIGH GTX. Result - ruined boots. So I DO NOT recommend those to anyone! In the store I got accused of ruining them on scree, which of course isn't true. After a few days the complaint was accepted, offered same new boots, but I refused and took slightly more expensive and (hope) much better La Sportiva TRANGO TREK MICRO EVO GTX .

I have them this season. As far as I'm concerned, they are great, fit my foot well, are stiff enough for high mountain walking, the sole is excellent (doesn't slip), they have some cushioning in the sole, so even after long walks my knees don't hurt (as they used to). I had Kayland before and can only recommend them. Regards,

I bought Alpina high mountaineering boots, now I'm breaking them in with hikes to Šmarna, they've been up at least 10 times, they remain hard, they are big enough, but is that sufficient reason for an exchange, since the warranty is one year, thanks for the opinion
